By all accounts, alumni network is real. That said, if UCLA is cheaper you should probably attend.
Btw, what #'s are you using for UCLA's tuition? (I know I've seen ppl using numbers well off the projections).

on the phone I was told appx $44,000/yr, including $1000 of waived fees.

I think this figure includes the UCLA health insurance plan (around $1900 IIRC?), so if you are already covered under another plan, your fees would be almost $2000 less.

I accepted my offer to UCLA this afternoon, and then withdrew from USC after swearing that it was my #1 choice...
