*sigh*

I've been under review since 10/22, don't get to antsy just yet. There won't be any movement till next week at the earliest.

Oh god December's really close now isn't it? Shittttt.

Just had that exact realization.

Seems like every week for the next month or two at least, we have a impending decisions to freak out about...

Boalt started this week. NYU next week. Maybe Penn/Cornell the week after that. Then Chicago and so on and so forth....

Submitted 11/1 and got the status checker e-mail 11/9, but I've been "processing" since 11/1 :? . I feel like NYU is trying to kill my hope by saying, "Don't even start, son. No chance, no way no how." :|

I applied for the furman as well, and am not letting myself get particularly hopeful. What's your story, ehh?

Why aren't you hopeful? I didn't apply because my numbers just aren't there, but I definitely would have if I had yours.

+1. Granted, I don't know the numbers of the students who have received Furman scholarships, but I would certainly imagine you would be in contention. Had my GPA been a bit higher, I would have considered it.

I applied as well. Anyone know how many are given out each year, and/or the typical profile of successful applicants (other than strong numbers)?

Are the scholarship programs almost entirely numbers based? I applied to the Mitchell Jacobson law and business program and was hoping that they looked at your other application components (i.e. resume and essay) rather than just your numbers.

Check out the profiles of current scholars:

A little ridiculous. Peace Corps, teaching monks in Japan, years of legal experience, PhDs, Fulbright Scholars, etc. I'm not that cool.

Thanks. Can't believe I missed that page when I was completing my application.

I called the admissions office about a month ago and asked them similar questions to the ones posed above. Very few scholarships are given every year, though the women I spoke with would not give an exact figure. It's easy to see how small the pool is by counting the number of scholars in past years. For the Furman, it was:

2011: 3
2010: 6
2009: 5
2008: 5
(these statistics are somewhat meaningless because they dont say how many ppl apply... **edit-- also meaningless bc they dont tell you how many are offered vs. accepted...*)

I imagine the programs are not 'entirely numbers based', but you also need to realize they don't even look at these scholarship essays until the adcoms make a decision to admit you. So, if you get in, I like to think they will give the softer parts of your application a more sustained look.

Wow, the one that involved teaching English to monks in Japan was sort of hilarious, like a made-up cliche of a background.

UR since 10/14... I don't think I'll get in, but I would like to hear either way. From past threads on NYU it seems like they take an extremely long time to inform people of their decision, which is annoying.

...really? They get back to a ton of people in early December. That's not bad at all. The people that take a while to hear are the WL's, but the acceptance patterns are so clear you will know if that's going to happen well in advance.

IIRC the only one that's purely numbers driven is the Dean's

Good to know. I am only marginal for acceptance because of a mediocre GPA, but I have some pretty relevant and unique work experience since. Glad to hear I am not entirely out of the running.

I'm still processing at 11/4... Is anyone else in my same boat or should I be getting concerned?
