For the admitted student's site trick... Did people just use their status checker login and password? Because gtown's admitted students site uses some totally random user name and password they sent out post-admission notification.

Re: NYU 2011
Last year the admitted students site told you what your login (first initial, last name, or something like that) and password (ssn) would be. There was no status checker.
I was actually able to get into the Gtown one before I got my acceptance letter, as well. You have to click "request password" or something, and they send you an automatically-generated email with that info if you're in.
So far as I know, NYU doesn't have an admitted students login page anymore. But yeah, I think the person who logged in but wasn't admitted was an isolated incident. It also looks like they've maybe cleaned up their site a bit -- last year it was kind of a frustrating mess. There were a few times I wasn't able to log on to the admitted students section even after I got my purple envelope. Scared the hell out of me.

Didn't realize Dulcatis had kept ED dates out of these spreadsheets (i.e., I probably didn't read). That does make them more useful for RD candidates, but does anyone have a sense of when NYU's ED notifications have come out in the past? I've heard that there are two groups -- I'm guessing early and late December?eskimo wrote: Here are "Sent" dates from LSN and the decision dates. Dulcatis made it, and she tried to keep out all ED dates and make it just for RD, but she says a few ED-ers may have slipped in.

Looks like accepted ED applicants are definitely hearing before Christmas. Anywhere from 12/1 - 12/19... but keep in mind that the sample size for that assertion is VERY small.
Edit: and the year before, it looks like a decisions came out much closer to Christmas for ED applicants:

Re: NYU 2011
Thanks for doing the research. I was hoping to piece together anecdotal evidence that would support my hoped-for hypothesis that the stronger your application, the earlier in December you'd hear...but the the ED data from LSN for the past two cycles (albeit a small sample) doesn't necessarily support it. Guess I'll just continue to gnaw my nails off for the next x number of weeks. Or I could pace back and forth in front of the law school in lieu of going to work. Or both. Sigh.eskimo wrote:

Yeah, it doesn't look numbers-related, from what I see -- but honestly, there are just so few ED data points it's impossible to tell.
Also - I'm bored all day laying around the house, so I'm glad to dig around on LSN if anyone is curious about their chances/decision dates/etc. I like looking through the info - makes me feel better informed.

Re: NYU 2011
Yeah, I've been looking through this year's LSN data to see if there's any correlation with people's complete dates and their numbers. Like while some complete dates have more people with good numbers than others, there doesn't seem to be a solid correlation. I'm 10/20 and before it seemed like a lot of 10/20 people were somewhat borderline.eskimo wrote:Yeah, it doesn't look numbers-related, from what I see -- but honestly, there are just so few ED data points it's impossible to tell.

Thanks! Monkeys are my favorite animal, as you can probably tell.
Anyway, my numbers are actually pretty low for NYU (like around the 25th). This is definitely one of my biggest reaches. But I'm URM (AA female) with some pretty unique softs, so I figured I'd at least try. And if it doesn't work out I'm already into a couple schools that I'm really excited about, so I'm just waiting to see what will happen.

You're an auto-admit as an AA with those numbers.law_monkey wrote:Anyway, my numbers are actually pretty low for NYU (like around the 25th). This is definitely one of my biggest reaches. That's what I'm scared of. That and just bad karma looking at it this early.CapHillLove wrote:Is NYU like Michigan? Can they can see if you tried to access the site?
I don't know if they do. But it being their site and not the automated status checker, they theoretically can check who's logging in
