But, I live in Brooklyn, so I probably wouldn't get it till mid-January

Okay, I don't mean to unleash the fury of the precedent cat here, but has there been/is there any idle speculation as to what's up with this trend here? I find it exceptionally weird: people got status changes for a bit, but now they just get stealth admits. Why? Why could this possibly be? I can't even invent a plausible story here, other than maybe NYU Admissions just forgetting about their brand-new checker, or deciding that they don't like it and aren't going to use it anymore, or... well, like I said, nothing really plausible.jtemp320 wrote:Purple envelope in California - RD and no status change

They haven't discarded the status checker completely since a number of EDers (myself included) had decision sent updates earlier this week. Why they aren't updating for certain RDs? I don't have a clue other than NYU's insatiable desire to mindfuck all of us.tomwatts wrote:Okay, I don't mean to unleash the fury of the precedent cat here, but has there been/is there any idle speculation as to what's up with this trend here? Re: NYU 2011
So, for what it's worth, I decided to look and see how decisions were stacking up this year vs. last year. This time last year (as of 12/23), 167 RD acceptances had been reported to LSN. I skipped acceptances with no dates, and left out ED apps. This year 90 RD acceptances have been reported to LSN so far.
What does this mean? Well, IMO, not a whole lot. For one, last cycle's applicants had a whole year during which to update their LSN profiles. There's a chance that a lot of this year's applicants just haven't gotten around to it. Second, LSN obviously isn't perfect. Sample size and all that. But there is still a large discrepancy between number of acceptances reported last year and this year, so I think it's not entirely unreasonable for October/November applicants to be holding out hope for more December acceptances.
Don't want to be pessimistic (as the decision date spreadsheets might suggest), but I don't want this info to be too reassuring, either (I think false hope is worse than having low expectations, but maybe that's just me). It's just hard to be sure, and the data isn't perfect so take all of this with a grain of salt. However, I figured I'd post what I found and let y'all do with it what you will.
Good luck to everyone still waiting! <3

I am also puzzled by their intermittent use of the status checker, especially since the turnaround time on my app from UR to Decision Sent was OVER THE WEEKEND.Bajuda wrote:They haven't discarded the status checker completely since a number of EDers (myself included) had decision sent updates earlier this week. Auto-reject or not, that just seems completely crazy to me, and makes me wonder if the status checker is always entirely accurate for this cycle.
Obviously, precedent cat, etc.

My theory? NYU is addicted to the sneak-attack decision. They tried to go clean with the status checkers but they just. can't. stop.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but for those of you got your purple envelopes a couple weeks ago, have you received any info (email or paper) since then about the admitted students website, etc? Is it even set up yet? I got in on Monday and am wondering when I'll here any more info.

We just heard about when the Admitted Student Days are, but as far as I know, there's been nothing said about an admitted students website.lyman03 wrote:Sorry if this has been asked already, but for those of you got your purple envelopes a couple weeks ago, have you received any info (email or paper) since then about the admitted students website, etc? Does anyone here who received a letter have a very small mailbox? If so, did it fit in the mailbox?
Mine is tiny, and I was informed last week I received a package, but I'm not expecting anything...

Thanks so much for this! NYU is the only school so far that I'm definitely going to visit, so I'm glad to start planning a trip!gendefect wrote:It's on the facebook page.arism87 wrote:Ooh, when? I went to "decision letter sent" on 12/9/2010 and have still not received an envelope. Has anybody else been waiting 2 or more weeks to get their mail?

I think after 2 weeks you are finally allowed to call the office and wonder what the heck happened.

+1... Two weeks is a long time. I would definitely call. Unless you're like... in Australia or something.jd2014! wrote:porkbarrel wrote:I went to "decision letter sent" on 12/9/2010 and have still not received an envelope. Has anybody else been waiting 2 or more weeks to get their mail?

Re: NYU 2011
Today, I went from UR 12/6 to decision letter sent 12/15.I checked the status updater yesterday (12/22) and it still said UR on 12/6. I am really confused as to what this could mean. I had a friend check my mail (I am away from home until mid-January) on 12/20 and he did not find a letter from NYU, so I am not sure if the 12/15 date is just some glitch.
Also, none of my friends are around to check my mail, and none will be back until late December. AHHH!
I have a 3.98 and 170 so I thought I had a pretty good chance. Anyone else have something similar happen to them? By similar I mean a decision letter sent date that didn't seem to make sense?
One final question: Does anyone know how NYU mails the decision letters? Do they send them through USPS or a private company like UPS/FedEx? My friends might run into some trouble trying to pick up a package at my apartment complex...

In conclusion, the status checker this year is TOTALLY BANANAS.djeter2 wrote:Today, I went from UR 12/6 to decision letter sent 12/15.I checked the status updater yesterday (12/22) and it still said UR on 12/6.
