Re: Columbia 2011!
I tried to confirm my spot on the reserve list today, after i provide the information exactly the same way i did on the application, i get a message saying "We cannot find your application for admission because the information you provided does not match any records in our database"
Anyone else having the same problem?

If we look at this year's decisions (hold decisions, especially) from Columbia, they've been a little bit unpredictable from the standpoint of GPA/LSAT alone.
Then again, many more people with qualifying LSAT/GPA combinations apply to Columbia than they have space for, so perhaps that was why many with high numbers were held-->WL/rejected. Nothing to be surprised about.
Reject=we dont want you
Reserve= we think you are cool so if we have spots left, you will do
Hold= we dont know yet, lets just see how it all turns out.
I would be under the impression that holds should either be accepted or reserved. If you are rejected after a hold, why exactly did they hold you? What were they waiting for?

Held might have meant that no one bothered to read your file yet, they just looked at your numbers and threw you in a hold pile.BrightLine wrote:Accept=we want youjrose5 wrote:Not quite sure I understand your question.BrightLine wrote:What is the logic of Held->Ding?

Re: Columbia 2011!
Sorry to hear about the dings. Honestly, I was quite surprised. The strength of the remaining held applicants made me think they were waiting till the end to send out acceptances, perhaps reviewing by an elimination type of method.
If it helps any, our chances of getting off reserve are slim to nothing. Considering how closely this cycle has mirrored last year's, in spite of the lower #s of applications, getting off the WL is gonna be next to impossible...

Oh yeah, the reserve form isn't working - it keeps telling me my info can't be matched to their records.

Re: Columbia 2011!
If it makes you feel any less depressed, I got held on the same day with the same LSAT and a much lower gpa and they placed me on reserve Thursday. So it seems like they do at least acknowledge softs and the complete overeagerness of my application and subsequent LOCIs, even if it doesn't quite mean a VCE.rosewood wrote:This is extremely depressing.lawscholar20 wrote:And the wait is over!

Re: Columbia 2011!
May I ask if you high #s people who received the letter recently sent a LOCI to follow up your hold? I'm a little perplexed by this...
edit: Also, sorry to hear the bad news. If anything, I am sure that with those #s you guys got other great acceptances!

Well, I was already on reserve. I've sent updates but no LOCI. Do you think I should send one?descartesb4thehorse wrote:If it makes you feel any less depressed, I got held on the same day with the same LSAT and a much lower gpa and they placed me on reserve Thursday. Re: Columbia 2011!
Ok so did anyone get held via email (maybe in March) but rejected by the 4/22 deadline via snail mail?
I'm international; was held 3/14 via email but haven't heard or received anything to my email inbox by 4/22. Sent LOCI right after my held email.
So I should just expect a ding via snail mail? Any tiny, remote possibility I've been put on reserve in a snail mailed letter?

Re: Columbia 2011!
Definitely. Reading this thread makes me believe that Columbia's admissions does a lot more than numbers-> decision. There are a lot of 171s floating around, most with GPAs higher than mine, who have been dinged, while a friend who went to the same UG as I did with similar numbers and I are on reserve. I obviously have no experience getting off reserve, and if you went by this thread and got discouraged, you would probably just want to throw in the towel. But if Columbia really is your dream (like it is mine), send a LOCI, visit the school, do anything you can. Let them know you're still really into them. I can't say it will work, but I can say with some authority that not doing it will almost guarantee that you won't get in.rosewood wrote:Well, I was already on reserve. I've sent updates but no LOCI. Re: Columbia 2011!
Can someone please tell me what is included in an LOCI? is there a standard (preferably snark-less) format?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
