Lol, yes. A portion of you traditionally gets accepted to CLS, but lo and behold this year you are hereby invited into their held pool.BrightLine wrote:Is there something magical that happens at 4.4?

Hahaha true. But really glad to see some movement in the held department today.Confused7 wrote:Lol, yes. A portion of you traditionally gets accepted to CLS, but lo and behold this year you are hereby invited into their held pool.BrightLine wrote:Is there something magical that happens at 4.4?
I didn't send a LOCI and am starting to regret it. Hopefully, more acceptances will filter off the hold list soon enough.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Also, each school has a different "index." Based on some combination of LSAT score and GPA with different weights given to each depending on the school. The actual range of the indexes have no bearings on the schools, but more on what factors they use to multiply each component. For example, Columbia's ranges from 0 to about 4.824 (the index # for a 4.0/180 applicant). Most of them are somewhat irrelevant, but in the past CLS has hewn to theirs in past years in a more useful way. In the past, above 4.5 meant basically auto-admit (with 4.6 being pretty solid for Butler/Hamilton), 4.4-4.5 was a good bet, 4.3-4.4 was a little bit of a reach and less than 4.3 usually required good softs/URM. Of course this year CLS held a bunch of people in the 4.4-4.5 range, but after today they seem to be accepting a lot of those people so who knows. FWIW, I was 4.415 and I was accepted back in January.pkt63 wrote:somehow I had missed law school predictor all this time, too. So I went there, and which number is the "index"? I don't see any numbers on my list that seem right. Under the score column, I have a range of 250 to 3, and under LSAT/GPA ratio, I have numbers that are comparable to the 4.4 (anything from 1.7 to 5.7) but neither of these correlate with the quality of the school, so I don't get it...?Knock wrote:jeng wrote:jrose5 wrote:[

Re: Columbia 2011!
Last cycle: 282 total admits. 132 updated their Columbia entry after 3/28 of last year.
This cycle: 181 total admits so far.
At first glance, it looks like we're actually ahead of last year. However, due to the methodology, not ALL of those 132 people updated their profile with a decision, most likely. Some of the people who are listed with a final update after March 28, 2010 likely updated their profile with a final decision (i.e. "A" or "W"), and others may have put the decision up early, but simply changed a date. Because there are people who don't create profiles until the end of their cycle (for both years), we can't assume, though, that the below groups necessarily had decision info up last year at around this time.
Out of the 132, some extra statistics.
Decision before 3/20, but appear to have withdrawn/deposited on 3/28 or later: 44
Others that could fall into this category, but is unclear due to LSN's setup: 10
Although this is all fuzzy math, my guess is that roughly 132 - 44 - (10/2) = no more than 83 people had not posted their decision yet on CLS last year before 3/28.
This means that I believe at least 282 - 83 = 199 people had already posted an acceptance by last year, and this means that we are (to the best of my statistic-fudging ability) 17-25 people behind last year. If you include the small number of hold acceptances from last year, and extrapolate to include those admits that have never been listed on LSN, and assuming that waitlists are treated in a similar manner, I would expect an additional 30-50 people to come off of this hold list between now and April 22.
Please note that this does not include "WL, Accepted" entries from either year.

For what it's worth, my index is 4.58 and I was held last week after 5 months of being forgotten.

Your index is also on the report the LSAC sends to the school.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Yeah, Columbia is trying to get all silly holistic or something, and I don't know how well it's working out for them. I was a 4.375, but they're going to need to convince me why I should go to their school over NYU. By the time they get around to actually admitting some of the people who actually wanted to go there, they may have already committed elsewhere.incompetentia wrote:For what it's worth, my index is 4.58 and I was held last week after 5 months of being forgotten.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Hey Columbia folks. I haven't been on this thread yet but I just got admitted off a hold this afternoon!
Stats because I know someone will ask:
176/3.79
Submitted 12/3
Held 2/8
Admitted 3/28
I had been trying to forget about CLS and the other T10s I applied to. I assumed Hold was just a delayed WL or ding and didn't think there was any hope at this point. I'm very glad I was wrong! For those still waiting for a final decision, stay strong!

Incompetentia, you are so strong. If I get held at this point after not hearing anything for 5 1/2 months, I think I'm going to have to send them a nice "fuck off I'm withdrawing my application" email

+1. And a hold is absurd with those numbers.texaskk wrote:incompetentia wrote:For what it's worth, my index is 4.58 and I was held last week after 5 months of being forgotten.

EDIT: I'm 95% sure there's one factor in my app that's holding me back, and I'm pretty much resigned to it at this point. We'll see how it turns out

Congrats! You've got really high stats too so it should have been coming. Also, I'm assuming you meant the hold list and not the waitlist/reserve list?miamiman09 wrote:Hey Columbia folks. I haven't been on this thread yet but I just got admitted off the waitlist this afternoon!

Accepted today at 3:30 est via e-mail. Submitted 2/2, went complete 2/10. Stats are 173/3.7X. Best of luck to those of you still waiting. I really think that if your numbers are solid you shouldn't give up hope yet.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Could someone please help me locate my index # on my Academic Summary Report....embarassed but I must be overlooking it.
Complete: 2/21
Have not heard back yet.
Yale UG
3.7/164 (I know my LSAT would be on their low end)
Anyone with any words of advice or information? Thanks!

Bottom left corner box entitled 'summary.' Within that, the column furthest to the right.jasonesq1985 wrote:Could someone please help me locate my index # on my Academic Summary Report....embarassed but I must be overlooking it.

For Columbia, the index is as follows:
(0.045 x LSAT) + (0.559 x GPA) - 5.512
(0.045 x LSAT) + (0.559 x GPA) - 5.512
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
