I was born on Chinese NY, so today is my real birthday (screw what's on my drivers license, says my mom). So I better get a VCE.

So what's the consensus on hold? Worth it to write a LOCI or submit extra letters of recommendation? They only mention sending in an updated transcript, which I don't have.

ETA: What is a VCE? Haven't been following this thread, sorry.

You're two lunar months older than I am! If I remember correctly. I figured this out once...

& I'm sure you will get a lovely vomit-colored bday present :)

Vomit Colored Envelope. The mythical thing that comes to you via the zip man if you are lucky enough to get accepted. Or the result when you upchuck on the rejection letter.

I think they are just reporting in. Not everyone check mail every 5 minutes instantly, all 20 accounts.

Hate to ask this, but i lost track of this thread when it exploded around page 190 lol. Could someone briefly tell me what hold entails in terms of chances / when we can expect a final decision?
They haven't been able to make a final decision, you should get one by the end of April, and nobody really knows the chances part. The numbers are all over the place.

HTH

ETA: you JUST got a hold email? as in just now? they're STILL sending them?
Woops, sorry guys! I'm international at the moment, and just woke up to a hold e-mail haha. To be precise, I got it in my inbox about 6 hours ago.

Fair enough -- please add stats to the document. Damn, though -- competition is intense! Lots of talented applicants out there.

I think quite a few of the non-hold group can go to bed feeling slightly more optimistic. There aren't many auto-waitlist or auto-ding numbers and judging from the sheer volume and range earlier today, I think we'd have been held if we were waitlist bound.

I agree with this. Especially I've been complete since 10/12. But watch me get Reserve email tomorrow.

I have to say, the 4.75 index HYPS graduate really paints a different picture of the non-held group; that must be an auto-admit.

Held as well - kind of shocked because I've been slaughtered in the T14 save Gtown/Cornell (UVA, Chicago rejections, deferral from UPenn ED).

It seems that I have the worst stats in the entire held group - 3.7, 168. It can't be a good place to be if I'm there!

another theory-maybe CLS is gunning for the #3 ranking, and being extremely cautious?

I am wary of this thread that grew 40 pages without getting a single, actual decision.

It would need to bump up its prestige with lawyers & judges substantially to influence the reputation category (15%) and faculty resources are probably not going to change a lot relative to S (15%). Placement is indistinguishable for the two (20%). So they are really left having to find 380 students who have better numerical qualities than S will admit. I seriously doubt that they will be able/willing to top S in the GPA median category, especially if they want to maintain their LSAT standards. Also, acceptance rate is only 2.5% of the total USNWR score so boosting yield doesn't get you a whole lot.

The gaming the rankings explanations are just not working for me.

I could see the wary-of-Rubenstein theory, but trying to crack the top 3 is pretty hardcore.
