How long did it take for everyone to move from UR to getting a decision?

I was complete as of 12/8 so it's been around 2 months or so since I applied. I have a 164/3.63 with 2 years of TFA. I'm getting anxious, as it seems that many others who applied with similar numbers were accepted much sooner.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Huh. That seems odd; last year they didn't waitlist or reject anyone on LSN with a 166+ and 3.0+. I imagine you'll have other good options, though.

I've noticed most people suggest to not try and study/read/prepare for law school--I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of taking this advice. Are there any books you would recommend reading beforehand? Would browsing the CP E&E that you mentioned before be beneficial? If so, which E&E?

Honestly, and I admire your enthusiasm, there will be plentyyyy of time for you to read your E&E. Not being in law school at the moment and not having 60-70 pages to read per night is probably the main reason I would say most people advise against doing any studying before you actually are. Not to mention professors pick and choose what they cover, so it's very possible that you're looking at something that doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Also, you'll come to realize that understanding law your first year amounts to the seeing the big picture in the end. The analogy you'll hear often is at first, you see a forest as only its sub-parts (trees), then slowly, you'll start to see how they all work together to make the forest. Ridiculous as it sounds, you do spend the first month or two wondering, how in the world does this all make sense. So, bottom line, if you have to look over law school reading, I would recommend books on test taking technique (IRAC method) because this is one skill that is not covered ad nauseum and would benefit you GREATLY come December. It's amazing how method can actually gain you points on the curve because you're more organized, I honestly think this is the only reason I got an A in Civ Pro and an A in Crim. Clear writing indicates clear thinking.

As far as which E&E to get, get the Aspen publishers version. The Civ Pro version I got is by Joseph Glannon, the dude is a master. ISBN: 9780735570337, which reminds me, mine is up for sale if anybody is interested, I don't highlight in my E&Es so it is basically like new condition. PM if you're interested. Hope this helps, back to Legal Writing...blahhhh.

Hey i'm a non-resident and wanted to see if you were attempting to get Ohio residency. I've read that it is tough, but I was hoping you could give me some perspective. Do most students get re-classified? If I'm not receiving a money/car from my parents and change my license, do I have a good chance?

How has your experience been at OSU? I really love the school, I just hope we get scholly info sometime soon. Thanks for answering our questions!

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to get residency! It is kind of tough, but very doable, you just have to make sure you do everything the way the want you to--i.e. don't receive any traceable money (checks, wire transfers) from out of state (no family, friends, strangers, etc.). They will want your bank account information at the end of the application process and even if it's a $1.00 check, that's grounds for disqualification. Since there's not a provision for every single situation, always err on the side of caution, so if you have any kind of insurance, cell phone bill, pay it and then have your parents pay you back your 2L year if they normally pay for stuff. Also, keep in touch with the residency office on a regular basis to ask them any question you have, just to be safe. Besides that, you just have to do things that indicate you "intend" on becoming a permanent Ohio resident, such as register to vote and change your driver's license over to Ohio (it was a sad day giving up my KY license haha). Overall, it's not that difficult if you just do what they ask and just pay for everything and live in Ohio the summer after your 1L year. I know around 80% get residency after their 1L year and the rest get it after 2L.

BTW, I remember I got my scholly info last year in March, then again, I applied late haha, Good luck!!

Odd, I only see one LSN profile within the last 3 years that got denied with numbers somewhat close to yours.

Doesn't give us lovely 163-ers much hope.

You still have hope. I was accepted with a lower LSAT than that and I am not a URM.

Question for you, since you deferred law school for a year - if you defer, do you typically get to keep the scholarships you were offered or does that get re-evaluated during the next year's cycle?

Thanks

You don't get the keep the scholarship, they get re-evaluated but they've told me they try to match what they offered before

Same here.

$12k/year. Even with in-state tuition, it doesn't beat out IU... holding out for the Moritz Merit scholarship.

Nope, but I don't particularly enrich the diversity. :D

The award I received is a leadership scholarship, but I also applied for the Moritz Merit scholarship:
--LinkRemoved--

My numbers are a little lower than those who have received it in the past according to LSN, but it's still worth a shot.

Ohh that one would be awesome but my numbers are too low to even bother applying for the Moritz Merit Scholarship, but good luck to you Elle Woods :P !

Does anybody know if Moritz can award you more than one of the scholarship that don't require an app? (ie Can I get a Diversity Enrichment Scholly and Academic Merit Scholly?)

Yeah...I guess I wasn't expecting more, but I hoped there would be a chance for more...it doesn't compare to IU-B and U of I. Crap. Also, if you get an Academic Merit, apparently you can't get a leadership or diversity enrichment :(.
