I just wanted to add my two cents by saying that my numbers are not ideal or anything - they're actually both below the median. However, I am currently at UF finishing my last semester as an undergrad, I'm a minority and all my letters of recommendations came from professors at UF. I do not know how much of an impact the things I've previously mentioned will have on the upcoming decision but as you can see...not even I was an automatic admit just because I went to UF, etc. so don't lose hope! I've spent 4 years of my life here going to football games and the best house parties in the WORLD and yes, I had the privilege of sharing a class with TEBOW the legend while he was still a student here...this place is AMAZING!

I really hope I get to spend 3 more years here and hang out with all of you guys come fall! I know the best places to shop, rent, study, work out, you name it....just get in touch with me if you have any questions concerning the city and the university at large :D

Que? Lol but good luck with your app, hope you get your wish

I think you will get in. At worst you'll be waitlisted. At least I hope because our numbers are similar :)

They sent me a letter saying that the information I gave them was not adequate to establish whether or not I was a resident (and I filled out everything except what my summer plans were). They asked me to write a letter describing my activities from August of last year to August of this coming year. After I sent in the letter I called to check in on what was going on. The guy said they had received the letter and I was classified as in state. I asked him why I had to do this and he said that I just didn't put enough information on the questions and they needed to have everything in case they get audited so they could prove that I am actually instate. So, it's not really a big deal. Just write the letter and you'll be fine!

I also don't think you were an "audit project." I was an out-of-state at UF my 1L year, and that next summer the legislature changed the statute so you had to prove by a clear and convincing evidence standard that you are a resident (among other requirements). Before, it was less stringent. The statute is located here:

http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/ind ... 09.21.html

EDIT: Note to 0L's--a "clear and convincing" evidence standard is between "preponderance of the evidence" std. and the "beyond a reasonable doubt" std.--so it's roughly 75% certain.

How difficult was proving residency? Also, any tips or advice you can give on the process would be greatly appreciated.

Well...first, I'm not giving legal advice here, but I can give you some information about my situation! :D

Second...I can't really say how hard it is, just that they changed the standard to make it more difficult. However, I can tell you that I've been told that the most important thing is filing a change of domicile. You go to the clerk's office to do that, and they notarize that you want to be a Florida citizen. I'm also married, and my wife works here, so I explained that, and that we have no land/house in our former state. I definitely think that helps. Also, it helped that: I changed my driver's license as soon as I moved here; ditto for my voter's registration; I registered for the Florida Bar; and I had legal and non-legal externships in Florida during my 1L summer. That shows that I intended to stay in the state and be a citizen indefinitely. I made sure to send them a typed letter not only giving them these documents, but also piecing all of these things together to make it clear that I want to stay in Florida (why would I want to leave? I love it here!).

If you have any more questions, I highly recommend emailing student affairs. UF does a good job of explaining things like this. For example, they were very helpful when the standard change--they told us to try to get our applications in early, so that we'd be under the more lenient standard.

If you have any more questions for me, I'll also try to answer them!

I've been in FL since 2007, and not for school. I've sent them what they asked for -- leases, utility bills, etc. -- now they want me to write a statement with my activities and locations since June '09!

Is this a trend, or am I their audit project for this year?

I'm in the same boat (been in Florida since '01, currently own house in Jacksonville -since '04ish). I sent a letter stating I could provide them with whatever it is they need/want/obsess over. Haven't heard anything else from them yet. I haven't pushed the issue because I have yet to receive a decision from UF (161LSAT/3.64LSAC GPA)

I really wasn't impressed by their ASD at all though. It seemed like they knew they were #1 in the state and didn't really put much effort into trying to sell the place, because they knew people would go there anyway. And it bothered me they wouldn't allow us to ask the career lady questions in the session! like they were trying to avoid having to answer the 'difficult' ones in front of the crowd of people they want to impress. Like, we all get how large and awesome the "gator nation" is... but tell me what the office actually does for students. Idk. I don't DISlike the school, but I was hoping to be more impressed/excited after leaving the event and it just didn't happen. After this weekend, I decided I will most likely choose another school out of state.
+1. I'm pretty close to deciding on Wake. The prof panel kind of did it for me, when talking about section size the woman said that she tries to learn everyone's name... not very impressive.
THIS! I was the one who asked that question and I was less than impressed with her answer...

So what kind of stuff did people put in the essay UF requires for aid? I feel like my personal statement includes reasons for why I would need aid but I don't want to just copy and paste. Plus I think this needs to be more factual and less personal statement like. Any input would be great!

Mine was very factual. Didn't use any creativity at all. There isn't much space, so mine was kind of a list of reasons.

yea, that's kind of what I figured. But I feel weird making a list. I need money cause Law School is expensive...not to be personal but could I get an example of what you put on your list? Should I be itemizing the expenses? lol

Wait, so they tell you where to sit? Or does the seating chart apply after you chose a seat??

Usually they pass around the seating chart the first day after everyone has taken a seat of their choosing.

I'm actually thinking of moving there in April/May if I can find a job and just hang out all summer. I am so excited to move there that there is no way I can wait until July/August!
