Tulane 53%
Baylor 46%
jeez, Tulane and Baylor are that low also?

Those numbers are pretty sobering...I imagine UH is slightly better because the energy sector has fared better ITE than most industries. Surprised to see Emory and Tulane so low.

The past two years have been some of the worst in legal hiring in a very long time. I don't expect it to be that bad by the time I graduate, and neither should anyone who hasn't even started yet.

Well, yes, a thought...SMU is slow. Don't expect to hear anything any time soon.

What have you heard about this year's OCI and 2L hiring? Better than last year and '09? About the same? Worse?

The past year (for current 2L's) sucked. However, everyone (and I don't mean career services) has said that this year (my year) will be better. Firms are hiring some summer 1L's, and the legal market is picking up. Even firms I spoke with have said that this year they plan to do more hiring.

Yeah, I would bet it comes before Thursday.
Has anyone been "application completed" and then held, or rejected? Seems that everyone who has been "application completed" has also been accepted a few days later. Accurate?

As far as I know, that's right. Maybe someone else has had a different experience

Unfortunately not in my experience. I applied Dec 9th, received all the login info Dec 10th, and then since December 16th have been "Application Completed". I don't know if your "Application Completed" was new to 3/10, or what it was before then, but mine has been this way since December and I'd sure like a response (hopefully a good one).

Applied at Thanksgiving > Held in January > Denied today.

I was ~25% for LSAT and ~75% GPA.

Sucks about the rankings, expecially the PT program. SMU is now way behind UH in the PT rankings. They are even behind DU. I don't understand the drop in PT when the FT program is ranked higher than both of those schools. Could it be that SMU doesn't put as much effort into the PT program and students? I would hate to spend this much money and be treated as a second class student.
No. Don't put too much worry into these stupid minor ranking shifts, especially Part Time rankings. An employer will see SMU on your resume in the end, which will speak louder than UH or any other Texas school (other than UT) anyway.

Man, I think I'm going to withdraw soon. I was almost set on going yesterday but will likely free up my spot by the end of the week. One of the things that appealed to me about SMU was it supposedly placed really well. But w/ the 66% employment rate at graduation (with that number likely inflated by really rich people with connections that I don't have), I think I'll be leaving Tejas and the great Tex Mex / huge highways.

That's silly. It places very well. Almost every school had a big drop in placement numbers for the past couple of years.

Haha, from stalking the SMU threads this past 6 months, I knew you'd post. But the 66% at employment at graduation stat doesn't lie. Worse than UH.

As I said, a lot of schools numbers took a huge dive. It's to be expected. But to see people bail on a historically solid school because of a single dip during a terrible recession is silly.

I agree with you. I was just saying that the most appealing aspect of SMU for me was employment numbers. That #27, 16% on NALP, high median salaries, transparent employment stats, etc. So without it, even if it may be temporary, I'll probably pass.

No, but if I had the choice between going to UH or Emory all things considered, and one of the primary reasons I wanted to go to Emory was because of the great employment prospects, then I'd probably choose UH. I'm not hating on SMU. USN is hating on SMU.

And what I am saying is that that is a reflection of the past 2 years, not the future. You're assuming that those numbers will hold true through the next 4 years.

But assuming that the school's numbers will stay like that when the economy is changing is silly.
