WL today 164/3.61. Mostly mad that they made me wait this long for a decision.

Re: SMU 2011
This. I applied late in the 09 cycle, and was admitted to the part-time program with no money. I applied in December of 09 for the 2010 cycle, and was admitted to the FT program with a substantial scholarship. If you are set on SMU, send in an LOCI, then hope for the best. I know someone got admitted off the waitlist at the end of the 09 cycle and was given ~$20k, so there's a shot you might get money. If you don't wait it out until next cycle.david787 wrote:I wouldn't let a 167 go to waste. Work on some stellar essays and apply again this fall. You should get some $ from SMU and probably acceptances at other schools of interest. Do something productive to make some $ on your off year. Are you an undergrad or recent grad or older?
EDIT: I'm a URM (AA Male), so my situation might not be representative of the general trend.

WL.
Oh well, looks like I'll be going to Ole Miss. SMU is great, but their football tailgates are rather devoid of chandeliers!

WL today as well with a 167/3.5. Oh well. Really liked SMU but I will be at UGA in the fall. Good luck to everyone next year!

This is shocking to me. I think you will get of the WL, possibly with money. I'm a 3L (way out of touch with admissions), but I know 3-4 people with much worse numbers that got money off the waitlist during my cycle.
I dunno, maybe the bar has been raised.

I think the drop to almost-T2 status was a slap in the face to admissions and administration.

definitely. I'm going to be very interested to see the new medians, because that seems to be their main target at this point.kalvano wrote:holdencaulfield wrote:avery87 wrote:WL today as well with a 167/3.5. I think our bar passage rate should be more of a concern than our medians (which really aren't all that bad right now). I think some online/Caribbean law schools had higher bar passage rates than last years 3Lskalvano wrote:I think the drop to almost-T2 status was a slap in the face to admissions and administration.

But right now the only direct thing they can control is who they admit. Hence, a panic to raise medians.

If bar passage rate was that important then Baylor would be a T14. I haven't looked at the earlier postings (Jan-Mar), what types of numbers were admitted?

165 seemed to be the magic number for LSAT, a GPA demarcation isn't quite as clear.david787 wrote:If bar passage rate was that important then Baylor would be a T14. I haven't looked at the earlier postings (Jan-Mar), what types of numbers were admitted?

I know several 1L's had 164-165 with > 3.5 gpa last cycle who were admitted first run with over half scholarships (amount ranged from 25-30 something a year).

Considering I got 25k per in the first wave with a 166, 3.1, I'm very surprised with a lot of the numbers that are being waitlisted... I'm guessing most of them are people who applied after the ED deadline?

Not sure about others, but Warflamingo and I both applied ED.timmah427 wrote:Considering I got 25k per in the first wave with a 166, 3.1, I'm very surprised with a lot of the numbers that are being waitlisted... I'm guessing most of them are people who applied after the ED deadline?

Re: SMU 2011
If you apply ED with a 166+ it's almost certain you will get in and receive some significant $$. It doesn't really matter how low your gpa is, they find enough people with good gpas to keep the median up.timmah427 wrote:Considering I got 25k per in the first wave with a 166, 3.1, I'm very surprised with a lot of the numbers that are being waitlisted... SMUs medians are higher than peer schools but they do it by letting in yahoos (like me) with splitastic numbers.

Re: SMU 2011
i think SMU is one of those schools where it really is important to apply early. also, even tho i missed the ED deadline and applied in early December, i was still counted ED
