Re: SMU 2011
Looked it up. SMU has a 2.7 for its peer assessment score, well lower than the surrounding schools. This accounts for a full 25% of the rankings. 15% is the score by judges and lawyers, and SMU scores a 3.1 which is closer to the schools around it.
Can't be an organized bias-- Tulane, a very southern school, scores a 3.1/3.4 and is tied with SMU.
Anyone know why other law schools don't respect SMU? I had heard schools are often punished by their peers if they severely game the rankings (IE take nearly all severe splitters or severe reverse splitters). Of course, I don't assume SMU does that, I'm just curious as to why their score is so low.

Wow. 25.6 thous and change per year. No stipulations.
Can current students tell me how diverse SMU and the surrounding areas are? I'm Asian and always felt the corporate side of Houston is a white man's world. I imagine Dallas to be more so but could be totally wrong.

Quick question Bart, not to derail the second half of your post. How did you find out? You get the packet today? If so, damn my location!bartleby wrote:Wow. 25.6 thous and change per year. No stipulations.

Diverse? Well, it is in the Park Cities, so that puts a damper on it.
However, Dallas is a big city. You'll find everyone under the sun. I see black, white, Asian, Middle Eastern, every day at school. No one seems to care at all, either.

I lived in the SMU area and it is not diverse. At all. However, I don't know about SMU law. I would look at LSAC's data and you will find the exact numbers of minorities at SMU law.bartleby wrote:Wow. 25.6 thous and change per year. No stipulations.

Looked at your lsn and you have some great options. SCU and Georgia in particular. Now you can add SMU to that list!

Thanks all. I got my package today. Scholarship offer was in a sep. sheet from acceptance letter.
I'm not someone who plays the race card and I get along with all races. I just want to maximize my career options. Will make the drive and visit this weekend or next.
I'm def. down to UGA and SMU.

In my section, it's roughly 90% white. There are a couple of black dudes, a couple of black girls, couple of Asians, couple of Hispanic girls.bartleby wrote:Wow. 25.6 thous and change per year. No stipulations.

Now, for the actual City of Dallas, not including the Park Cites or suburbs, I don't see any way that it's less than 50% Hispanic.

Re: SMU 2011
Thank you, nouseforaname123. That was a very informative post.
I had thought of the possibility of transferring to the FT program, or even transferring to another higher ranked Law School, but you pointed out several potential issues with that plan. Seems like once you are PT, you should stay there. It also sounds like the only potential transfer opportunities would be to other PT programs.
Lots to think about.

Applied back at the beginning of January, and have yet to go "complete" after February LSAT scores. Does this sound normal? Should I call and check on everything?

if you look at lawschoolnumbers.com some people have. From what I looked it.. it seems like if you have a 160+ you'll get a scholarship. If you have a 160 + >3.5 you'll get 36,000 (over four years) or maybe more. Those are merit scholarships.guyindfw wrote:Have any of the part-time folks gotten any scholarship? Well, package finally arrived in the great State of New York. 9k per year over 4 years for part-time. The package was indeed, very appealing. *Sigh*, Decisions decisions.

That, I do not see. The brief synopsis only mentions tours and meeting future classmates.AP-375 wrote:Yes, but do they have a schedule of events on those days? thanks.Justathought wrote:Day Students: April 1st and April 29th.AP-375 wrote:Is there a published schedule for Admitted Students Day? I think my ASW day was:
9:00-ish - Breakfast in the quad
10:00-ish - Go listen to law professors and deans talk about how awesome they are - did you know SMU Law has 5 grads in the CEO Forbes Fortune 50 list? Even more than Harvard Business, motherfuckers. 5 grads - that's some real shit right there.
12:00-ish - Lunch
1:00-ish - Tour and stuff
2:00-ish - 5 goddamn grads in the Forbes Fortune 50 list. You best believe this shit is real.
3:00-ish - Dean Attanasio kicks ass at Con Law and will tell you so. Some sort of simulated class.
Then there was a dinner at about 6:00.
5 CEO's in the Fortune 50. That's right bitches. 5. More than Harvard Business School.
