Re: SMU 2011
So, I'm sure many of you have not seen this yet, but USNWR has changed their methodology in this year's upcoming rankings. Apparently they want employment prospects to carry more weight than they currently do.
SMU seems to have strong employment numbers, and they are one of the more candid schools according to lawschooltransparency.com. If the new methodology is a significant departure from the current one, this has the potential to serve SMU well in the rankings. I don't really care too much about the rankings; I'm considering schools across multiple tiers, but it would be nice to see SMU make a noticeable jump.

What do you guys think?

How do you objectively rank something that the schools all but openly manipulate?

Yeah I'm really curious about this as well. They have yet to release the exact methodology, so I have no idea. I mean, the median salary at Hofstra, in my neck of the woods, is 160,000.kalvano wrote:How do you objectively rank something that the schools all but openly manipulate?
That is, of course, with about 20% of the class reporting.

I'm rooting for you guys! I need friends in Dallas, and TLS seems like a good place to start. Who doesn't want cynical, computer loving, OCD types as buddies?!OklahomasOK wrote:Pretty quiet today

Thanks. I'm hoping that my status will change from "Held for Further Review" to "Application Completed" and a phone call.bartleby wrote:I was held that day everyone was accepted. I'm URM, and LSP said I'm a consider, so I'm cautiously holding out hope.

Our numbers are very similar, and I'm a URM too. I really think you'll get in soon.jacketman03 wrote:FT. URM, and LSP said I'm a consider, so I'm cautiously holding out hope.Justathought wrote:You apply FT or PT?
Of course I did apply PT, and PT certainly seems to have lower requirements numbers wise, but given the median age is 29, and they ask for so much part-time specific stuff on the application, I think they may be looking for soft factors in admits. i.e. people who would seem like ideal part-time candidates.
As evidence to that point, my odds were actually listed as lower for admittance to the part-time program on law school predictor. I didn't quite buy into it at the time though, so I still chose to apply to the evening program.

I sure hope so. I would have applied PT, but if I get in and wind up going, I'll be in a bit of a long-distance marriage, and 3 years of that is better than 4.Justathought wrote:Our numbers are very similar, and I'm a URM too. Re: SMU 2011
I'm either going to transfer into the full-time and try to graduate in 3 - 3 1/2 years, or work pretty much non-stop after the first semester. Only concern I have with the work path is that it will probably require multiple jobs, as I assume you need to take advantage of summer associate opportunities if they are present.jacketman03 wrote:I sure hope so. Yeah, if I were to do PT, I'd try and do something along those lines. Anything to get done with school sooner. Also, methinks the wife is ready to have a mini-me running around.Justathought wrote:I'm either going to transfer into the full-time and try to graduate in 3 - 3 1/2 years, or work pretty much non-stop after the first semester. I was held 1/27. FT, still no movement. SMU is by far my first choice, but I'm not crossing my fingers anymore.

Checking in today. Can anyone who received their admittance letter tell me what the initial packet looks like? Any scholarship information comes in a later packet, right?
Most importantly, is the packet fancy? I'm expecting fancy.
