I wrote a WHY ND and a LOCI that stated ND was my top choice. Damnit.

I'm 99% sure I'll be heading to W&M in the fall, so I hope you get my spot (and scholarship $)!

It was tough turning down ND, but since W&M will be cheaper and I want to practice in the Mid-Atlantic, it seemed like a more logical choice.

No disrespect, W&M is an excellent school, but if by Mid-Atlantic, you mean NY then ND>>>W&M. But if you are talking VA/DC (which I'm not sure is considered Mid-Atlantic) then obviously W&M>>ND. But either way, the $$$ difference is huge so you are making a good decision.

"Mid-Atlantic" technically entails Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Virginia, New York, and West Virginia. Out of those I would prefer VA/DC and possibly Philly, where I have ties. Anyway, I'm no longer 99% set on W&M...just got accepted to BC, and I'm starting to reconsider ND after some additional research on placement stats...it does seem to have a fiercely loyal alum network and a more national reach than its peers. Among the three, I have to decide where to go in under two weeks!

Yup, I'll be flying from NY. It's really a pain that I need a connecting flight every time I fly to South Bend. But I am looking forward to a good weekend.

Where are you connecting through? Thankfully, Delta (previously Northwest) has a direct from Minneapolis to South Bend.

I'm connecting through Cincinnati, but I believe the airport is actually in Kentucky. It was the only connecting flight I could get that didn't pass by South Bend geographically. The other ones I would have to fly into Chicago.

Lol this brings me back. When I was living in Hyde Park (where uchicago is), it was roughly equidistant to O'Hare and South Bend by public transit (although the South Shore line was about $5 more expensive). That is, a little under 2 hours to each. One time I got a flight from South Bend to New York that connected through O'Hare. Needless to say, on the flight back I "missed" my connector from O'Hare to South Bend. :)

Lol yeah, I really like ND, but it is such a pain to get to.

Hey all, current ND student just wanted to tell you that South Bend is a strong contender for flakiest airport ever but you will not be stranded if you are at Midway/O'hare/without a connection here (which has happened to me a few times). I also STRONGLY recommend not checking luggage if you are flying into SB.

Coach USA picks up at both airports (I think every hour during weekdays) and drops off at the ND bookstore - its around 40 one way 60ish round trip. The drive is around 3 hours because of the stops - so its not wonderful, but you will get directly to campus. During the major breaks on campus ND rents direct so then its the usual 1.5 - 2 hours depending on traffic.

The other option is to hop over via transit from either airport to millenium station. There is a train that again takes about 2.5 hours that goes directly from millenium to SB regional airport. This is a good thing to know in general about getting to Chicago for the weekend anyways.

Hope that makes your travel easier and have a great ASW!

I'll be there this weekend. The talk of flakiness coming in through the South Bend airport somewhat worries me though

Hey guys, I have been lurking these forums for a while and thought I would enter the discussion. I'll be attending the ASD this weekend--I'll be there Thursday afternoon through Friday. If anyone's itinerary is similar to mine, PM me and we can arrange to grab a couple beers after the formalities on Thursday. It would be nice to meet some future classmates.

FYI: I am pretty clueless to the nightlife in and around the campus, so if someone has some suggestions, please let me know.

I'm at NDLS now and my only problem at the SB airport has been because the plane was late leaving O'Hare. I have had problems at O'Hare nearly every time I fly there. I am not sure what the other poster is referring to, unless it is weather related because SB has worse weather than Chicago.

I stayed in a hotel a mile out from the school. There is not a lot to do, but there are some awesome food places that are incredibly priced. I got a really pimped out salad for $4!!!! And I met a random dude in the next room throwing a party who got a pie with 3 toppings for like 7 bucks.

As for nightlife, not so much there, and there is A LOT of trash in the South Bend community. It was falling apart socioeconomically. For a one mile stretch, everything was either for sale or blocked with wooden boards. Notre Dame is an anomaly in the area.

For nightlife, your best bet would be depending on how good looking you are to facebook message cute girls at Notre Dame, and get invited to dorm parties which is where the nightlife is at according to my research. Then you can just ask to bring some friends and bring 200 admitted students.

Theres actually a few good bars on weekend nights. You just have to make sure you go to the right one because its very much a "this bar on this night" kinda town. Finnies or fever will be good on thursday nights (fever for more of a club atmosphere0 and Finnies / kildares/backer on friday or saturday nights.

Not sure if youre serious about dorm parties. But no one goes to those past sophomore year of UG much less in law/grad school.

Lol, waitlisted. Starting to wonder if my app got mixed up with someone who has the same numbers and is also a convicted serial killer, possibly with a preference for Catholics. I've triple checked EVERYTHING.

It really makes no sense at all to fly into South Bend. Go to Chicago and either take South Shore or CoachUSA to get to Notre Dame.
