Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
Any suggestions as to length? I don't know how much I can write without repeating what I wrote in my PS. Wouldn't that be redundant? Or does it not matter?SpiteFence wrote:Its not. Mine was 2 pages double spaced, but I saw it and my personal statement as essentially two opportunities to talk about how I fit (I talked about the different kind of lawyer in my personal statement, then the religious angle in why ND). There are so many things about ND though, the public service angle, the London program, the fact that they don't rank students that apply only to the law school, but the larger institution and its religion and tradition must also reverberate with the staff.

Thanks for your insight. I think I'm going to go the public service route since so many of my extracurriculars revolve around it.andythefir wrote:Mine was 2 pages double spaced, but I saw it and my personal statement as essentially two opportunities to talk about how I fit (I talked about the different kind of lawyer in my personal statement, then the religious angle in why ND). I think mine was 1/2- 3/4 of a page double spaced. Nothing super long.

My Why was 1.75 pages double spaced. I had 4 different drafts and spent half a day prepping it. I heard the Why ND is a big part of the app?

Getting ready to send app out to Notre Dame. I really like everything I have heard about ND, especially the different kind of lawyer stuff which really does set them apart. I just wish they could be ranked a little higher...but who knows, a large scholly and they just might hook me.

This will be the first year that USNWR incorporates the new library into the equation. I would expect to see a 1-3 place jump come March.soccerfreak wrote:Getting ready to send app out to Notre Dame. Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I think ND will go very deep into their waitlist this year. They have taken so long to get acceptances out that many of their initial accepts will have already set their hearts on somewhere else. I think a lot of people will get of the waitlist as a result.
Just my opinion, fwiw.

i don't see how the number of waitlist acceptances correlates to decision dates. if you want to go to ND, it doesn't matter whether you get your acceptance in december or in february - you're still going to go to ND. it's not like everyone still waiting on ND has already committed to another school.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I submitted a couple of days before Christmas and went complete 1/4. I saw that on LSN a couple of people from last year with similar sent/complete times heard pretty quickly, but I'm not counting on that. ND is my first choice now after I didn't get into my ED school.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
It is important to remember that ND has a lot of emotional appeal to people. The low numbers but good story folks they let in make for a good story, but remember that a lot of high numbers people who probably could have gone to a higher ranked school chose to stay at ND. I personally know a lot of people who went to catholic school their whole academic career until college, went to a state school and hated it, and would love an opportunity to come back. Plus, if you see the campus, especially the law school, and eat in the south dining hall (ranked the #2 place to eat in the country behind Cornell) you will be hooked. The second point about the library moving the school up in the rankings might be moot if the outstanding students don't get in until February, don't get a chance to visit, and go somewhere else.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I agree that a lot of people will pick ND over higher ranked schools due to what it represents.
The library bumping rankings up is moot no matter what b/c ND doesn't become a better school just b/c of a slight rankings boost. ND has always been a good law school and I don't see moving up a few spots changing how people look at it.

ND is choice 1 for me. However, I never got a fee waiver from them so I might not be what they are looking for #'s wise.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
Absolutely true. When I mentioned higher ranked earlier, I meant top 10. A few spots does not at all make a difference, in fact the biggest reason I may not choose Notre Dame is because I have a similarly ranked school (WUSTL) right down the road, and regionalism could overcome the aesthetic qualities ND comes with.ran12 wrote:I agree that a lot of people will pick ND over higher ranked schools due to what it represents.
