Great school and gorgeous campus, but I hate the drive to South Bend and I've already gotten into schools that can get me just as far. I'll be withdrawing. Congrats to all the admits and good luck to my fellow waitlisters who choose to remain on the waitlist! :)

PS Love the avatar, Burgstaller!
I'm doomed :( . 165/3.60
You may not be doomed... I got in with 20k per year with a high 150 LSAT and a 3.8
Ha, thanks. My remark was partially in jest. I'm really not too doom and gloom about it. I think I have a fighting chance. What kind of softs do you have? 20k a year? Wow.

Median = middle value in an ordered set
Mean = average value

The only way they'll get 166.5 as the median is if there are an even number of students an the middle two average to 166.5 (ie, 166, 167).

A 166 then, is as helpful to maintaining the 167 median as a 150, so they'll go for a student they'll go for a reverse splitter with a good story and a strong desire to go to Notre Dame.
Plus, they'll need to admit far more 167+ than <167 in order to assure those who enroll have a median of 167

Still, I don't think a waitlist means doom, though, if it's your top choice. Think of it as an opportunity to show that you really want to be there.
I think that was my point unless my math is that terrible.. which is entirely possible.. i was just using the extreme example that half the class is under 167 and half is at or over.. my point was that I'm surprised if thats the only reason for the WL as it wouldnt change their median even if my extreme case were true.. again maybe I'm still messing that up
The thing is, the median is based on those who enroll, not just those they admit. So, they look to the past and see that the higher the LSAT, the more likely the applicant will have better offers and not enroll. I don't know the actual numbers, but to keep it easy, let's say 25% of those with 167+ admitted to ND will enroll whereas 75% of those with <167 admitted will enroll. In order to ensure that and equal number enroll from both sides of the median, they would need to admit 3 above median for every 1 below. And really, it's probably more extreme than that. So it's not that they reject or waitlist everyone below their median LSAT, but that there's a much higher threshold for the rest of the application if the applicant's LSAT falls below that median. That's why on TLS most "chances" post look at the numbers and whether they're at, above or below median.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack. good luck! :)

True but if they want to rise in the ranks ( as most schools do) or to stay competitive they should want to increase their median for LSAT. Notre Dame is a school that many people may pick even if they can get into higher ones because of the catholic connection and well it's Notre Dame:)

The snail mail finally made it to Hawaii. Accepted today (164/3.66). No scholarship but that is no surprise. I did write a Why ND? Congrats to all the other acceptances and best of luck to all those still waiting.

I'm a proud member of the 2010 splitter nation class and am sad to see a fine member such as yourself be waitlisted.

Thanks. I am not 100% dead set on any school at this point. As you can see from my profile ND is the highest ranking school I have been accepted to. It will come down to finances and location. I would be incredibly proud to join the ranks of the Fighting Irish it is just a question of making up the gap between what the GI Bill pays for and full tuition. That guide booklet they sent with the acceptances has a lot of great information and right now I am just doing my research. Congrats to everyone else on their acceptances.

Withdrew two days ago, but I guess it wasn't soon enough. Waitlisted via snail mail.

Edit: No Why ND.

Yield protect, in other words if they believe someone is unlikely to enroll (usually because their numbers are stellar and will likely get into a better school or have already gotten into a better school) they will waitlist so as to protect the yield, which is the percentage of those admitted actually went.

nah, I don't think it's YP. ND seems to like more well-rounded applicants who have a genuine interest in the school. I'm a semi-splitter who didn't write a Why ND and applied at the last minute after I got a fee waiver. Also, Midwestern schools seem to have something against me.
