What I want every single one of you to know.

Postby SanBun » Fri May 07, 2010 3:13 am

Dear TLS users,

as I am leaving this thread, I have something that I would like to share with you about my learning experience throughout the application process, especially now that all my denials/acceptances/waitlists are final. When I read through this thread, I see many driven, articulate and intelligent fellow applicants who had and continue to have high hopes for themselves. But I also see a lot of disappointment as a lot of these admirable people are being turned down at the schools they envisioned themselves attending.

I feel the pain, as I myself have been rejected from schools and was left feeling hurt and treated unjustly. At the same time, it delights me to say that the positive aspects of this experience have outweighed the negative ones for me. I hope that with the following, I can make you, dear reader, see why you too should see the light at the end of this application tunnel.

After coming to realize that law may not be the best way to go for me, I also realized that many of you probably applied for the same reasons as I did. The love of writing, critical thinking, and probably foremost the desire to do good in society. This is why I would like to ask you, with every part of my being, to not take the decisions you receive as any kind of indicator of your potential as a human being. No law school committee can ever fully see your passion and potential. No matter how many schools you have been turned down at, I want you to believe that you can still do all the things you want- achieve a happy life doing a job you love, help other people- with or without your dream law school. I know that the application process makes many of us feel like we are weak, insignificant, and not worthy of receiving the best formation that exists.

The truth is, we are just the opposite of that. We are powerful, significant, and worthy of everything that the world has to offer. Whether you decide to pursue a legal education or not (and remember that it IS ok to turn your back to this apparent safe haven of school to explore your deepest passions), you can be the person you want to be. You only have to see your own potential regardless of what distant others have to say about you.

Follow your passions, and believe in yourself, and I promise that you will be on the right path.
All the best,
A now former TLS User.

What other path did you decide to take?

Thank you OP. I really needed to hear this at this point in the cycle.

Well put. Law school is not the end all be all of human existence; acceptance is not success, rejection is not failure. People who, as the OP said, carry/love the necessary skills will almost always undoubtedly find their way to great things, because being a hard-working, thoughtful person is a universal trait that can be applied to almost anything in life. In the admissions cycle of life, law school is just one of many paths you can apply to, and an over-traveled, risky path at that.

I don't know what you're talking about, my cycle was amazing.

Good post though.

Disagree with OP, some people (like myself) are worthless pieces of trash.

We get up right after you go to sleep, out from under your bed, and dance our hideous demonic jig around your somnolent form all night, wearing barrister's robes and powdered wigs.

Rejection is not failure.

Sorry you didn't get into law school, but the sudden realization that it doesn't matter and you didn't want to go anyway is LOL.

OP makes me feel like a prick for getting into a good law school and still not (really) wanting to go.

I'm totally going though.

That's nice.

If this is any indication of your personality or reading comprehension skills, then I feel really bad for whatever school accepted you, if any did.

Your idea of a well crafted metaphor is apparently "the admissions cycle of life."

But why do you care what I think--you "will almost always undoubtedly find the way to great things."
