What should I do?

Postby monkeybiz » Tue Apr 27, 2010 9:17 pm

Briefly, here's my situation:

167 (twice) / 3.35 (Ivy)

non-URM
softs- decent

SLS- ding
Berkeley- ding
UC Hastings - WL

Obviously applying to only 3 schools (in a small geographic area, nonetheless) was a tremendous gamble, one that appears to have gone horribly wrong.

Basically, my questions are:

Do I have a chance of getting off the Hastings waitlist?

If I do get off the waitlist, should I go to Hastings, or try to reapply next cycle (take the LSAT a third time?) (I am also unemployed right now, which makes me less happy about waiting longer before going to law school)?

Any other advice?

SLS is my dream school. If I do go to Hastings, I may attempt to transfer to there or Boalt.

Thoughts?

Thanks,all.

1. If you want SLS, you are not getting in with that LSAT.
2. If you want Boalt, you are not getting in with that GPA.
3. Do not go to a school intending to transfer.
4. Retake the LSAT and reapply to more schools. Include three groups: Reaches, targets, and safeties.

Sorry to break it to you, but your numbers are not that great. None of those schools were that realistic for you. Hastings was a maybe, and you got the WL monster. You should apply to lower ranked schools with a 167/3.3 because that GPA hurts.

don't go.

Yeats wrote a poem about the 2nd semester of 1L and the experience in general (but u didn't know that!)l:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Why not UCLA? You can probably get in. USC as well.

I'm unemployed as well (8 months and counting...) and I feel what youre saying about not wanting to wait. Is it at all possible for you to do an internship, maybe volunteer? Americorps is one thing that comes to mind. This is a soft factor that *might* help you next year.

I think a lot of people on here get caught up with law school admissions and all that stuff and they forget what goes on in the world. Volunteering might help you get a bit of perspective on things.

Good luck with everything!
