Yay congrats!!!!
Are you going to be joining us???
Yes I will be
Just need to call tomorrow to make it official!
Yay! Awesome news.
As far as your car question on the other thread, it seems that lots of students (but not all of them) have cars, since most of the grocery stores are outside of walking distance. I haven't scoped it out yet, though. I'm sure it's also easy enough to hop in with folks already going to the store, too.
If that's all you were going to have a car for, I don't know how necessary it would be, but I'd defer to someone who was a Stanford UG or current student on that.

A question for Amelie - did you just receive a call out of the blue from Dean Deal or was there some sort of forewarning...?

It was totally out of the blue... I had really written stanford off thinking I didn't have any chance (and I'm still trying to comprehend why I was chosen given how impressive and accomplished all of my future classmates seem to be!)
The call also actually came to my parents' house (which I believe I listed as my permanent, but not current, number). Good luck to all still waiting!

So I'm guessing that the other spot was probably filled with a non-tlser? Sigh. Looking at last year's thread, it seems as if the last week of July was the final week of any major movement. Depressing...

In this morning, with a call from Dean Deal. Put in my 2 weeks notice 15 minutes after the call. Excited.

stats were 3.88/171

3.85 and 168 are my real stats. I fudged them the 2nd time due to paranoia about posting the real numbers. I was a Stanford undergrad and have been working the last two years. I sent in two LOCIs and two additional recommendations that were perhaps stronger than my original two letters. I sent my first LOCI in May and the 2nd in mid July.

(based on what Harvard just did today)...does anyone know if Stanford will make a round of rejections from the WL? i'm guessing that last week's 3 reported acceptances were probably the final major movement of the cycle, so I wouldn't think it would make too much sense for them to keep a large WL at this point...

Hey all- withdrew last week. Gave SLS a deadline and they responded by giving me a rejection. It's to be expected. Nonetheless, still hoping for some major volatility and some more TLSers to snap up a few spots off the WL.

Sorry to hear about your rejection. I sort of envy the closure, though.

Meh, I was actually kind of surprised I didn't get in to begin with. Real numbers are at/above median so I took it as a negative verdict on my softs. Or maybe they really do take targeted LORs that seriously. Black box.

This. They confirmed when I visited them. So will it be Penn for you? I'm staying on even though I'm paid up at another school...

You cannot be serious. I understand that it's nice to have a targeted LOR, but it hardly has any bearing on the substance of the applicant's file. What did they say about this?

After I spoke with them, they told me to make sure I kept my file up to date by sending in LOCIs and such. However, the lady highly recommended a targeted LOR if I could get one. When she mentioned this, her face lit up with a smile that was akin to a wink. I took the hint.
