Denies from Suffolk- 3.63, 159
Just got the letter in the mail and I'm mystified. According to lawschoolpredictor I had an 87% chance of acceptance with my scores and was an easy admit. I have a few things on my record which I included in an addendum, and my softs are average, not terrible.
I don't get it, what gives?

Late but not right at the deadline- my gmail archives say I went complete on Feb. 11. I know I really botched it applying too late, I just didn't know that I should have been working on getting all my application stuff together before I took the LSAT, and then it took my recommenders forever of course. You know, same old excuse I'm sure everyone has.
I'm really screwed though- this was the only school I applied to and I figured I'd certainly get in, and probably get some money. Wow.

well this certainly isn't going to be what you wanted to hear, but: wait until next cycle, study for the LSATs (take a class, get a tutor, do as many PTs as possible) and with a 16anything you can go to a better school than suffolk.

Just for context so nobody has to look it up: Suffolk's median GPA is 3.3 and their median LSAT is 157. WTF.

They're bastards....
I had a similar situation with Saint Louis U...applied late...have scores beyond their 75th percentile in both LSAT and GPA....dinged.
I see you also have a criminal record..a recent one. Mine was seven years ago...still seems that some schools aren't willing to forgive (ironically its the Jesus schools that are giving me the most trouble).

Seconded on this. If you can get a 159, you can probably study hard enough to get a 165, and then you're looking at BC or BU instead of Suffolk.kissy wrote:well this certainly isn't going to be what you wanted to hear, but: wait until next cycle, study for the LSATs (take a class, get a tutor, do as many PTs as possible) and with a 16anything you can go to a better school than suffolk.

I'd rather gouge my left eye out than apply again, honestly. I guess I just don't want it bad enough, and I only have myself to blame. On the other hand, I HAVE the scores to get in to the school I applied to. I'm not sure what else I can do.
What's the point of applying again if they could just arbitrarily deny me seemingly no matter what my scores are? Next time I apply, am I going to have a better than 87% chance wherever I decide on- like I did this time according to LS predictor? Even if I do, what's to say I won't be declined for no reason again?

I can't tell you a specific reason they dinged you, but I know it looks good to them if you apply again and say you held off on law school for a year because you were dead-set on going to Suffolk for reasons A, B, C, and D, but you knew you applied too late in the year. Then, I think you will be an auto-admit (unless there is something serious that is keeping you out, such as past academic dishonesty, negative LORs, serious criminal background, unaccredited school, etc.).

Ha, that does make me feel better because I woudln't have been able to go to a TTT for no money anyway. Seems like they've gotten extremely stingy I've heard about a lot of people who didn't get money for them.
Well thanks everyone, I guess it's entrance into the "lost generation" for me. Thanks W.
