Still on the waitlist. When, if ever, are waitlisted students supposed to pay seat deposits?

I was most surprised by the "several people have been kicked off the waitlist" part of it. The way it was phrased made it sound like they only removed like 5 applications.Kchuck wrote:I got the "You're safe for now... email". Anyone surprised by the tone of it?

Re: UGA Wait List 2010
Hey! I just signed up. The nerves basically just set in after a year long process of getting ready and applying.
I was waitlisted on April 10th and made it through the first round of cuts with this new email that just got sent out. I'm so nervous because Georgia is my #1!
Anyways just saying hi and good luck to everyone still on the wl!

I saw somewhere else on this board that there was more trimming done to the Waitlist...has anyone heard anything?
I thought we were safe for now, so was just curious.

Re: UGA Wait List 2010
I suppose I was one of the few who got the rejection letter instead? It's all good though, I was over UGA once I was waitlisted again after being "waitlisted" (held) for over 4 months.
I'm not really a fan of that...if they ultimately wanted to reject me, it should have been a little more timely. (Although this is coming from a future UNC student...a school known for waiting until the LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE to reject or waitlist most of their applicant pool. So take this with a grain of salt )

I also got that email. I think they get so many deposits because it is only $50 and for that price, why not hold a spot?

I think so, and if you look on LSN there are a few new WL -> Rejects. I am planning on driving 12 hours to visit them sometime in the next two weeks and this random cutting makes me a little nervous, I don't want to take off work and invest that time if they are going to then cut me two days later. I might contact them today to see if I can get more information.

I may have to withdraw or defer admission because of family obligations. I hope one of you guys will be able to get my spot.

Re: UGA Wait List 2010
Thanks. My mom's ill so I'm either going to take the scholarship to GSU and stay in Atlanta or defer admission for a year. I haven't decided. I'm 27 & I really don't feel like waiting another year. We'll see.Wheretogo2013 wrote:ditto.keg411 wrote:OMG, I hope everything is okay with you .moviechicka wrote:I may have to withdraw or defer admission because of family obligations. If it makes you feel better, I'm 28 and going to school next year, so waiting a year won't totally kill you. Plus if your mom is sick it's going to be hard for you to concentrate on doing your best in school anyway.

Re: UGA Wait List 2010
If UGA is truly your #1 choice, you have a 164+ LSAT with a decent gpa, and you applied after Jan 1, I suggest you reapply this fall (before Thanksgiving). Dozens (hundreds?) of acceptances were given out in late Nov/early Dec within 10 days of submitting.
In the past 60 days, I have seen so many reports of applicants with 3.7+/165+ getting waitlisted. That is such a shame. Based on numbers alone, UGA wants these students (and these numbers would help with USNWR rankings). However, applications were at an unforeseen all-time-high and most acceptances were made before the February LSAT date. Dean Rollins said his department received over 700 applications during the week of the app deadline... and even several after the deadline had passed.
The last week to apply historically brings only a handful of apps to schools. Even before those 700+ extra applications, the class of 2013 had enough acceptances out to be over-deposited.
At any rate, good luck to all of you. If you don't get in, but really want Georgia Law, I would strongly consider applying in October and scheduling a tour of the school in the same month. I hope to see you there!
PS, I apologize for any grammatical mistakes... it has been a long day.

Re: UGA Wait List 2010
Has anyone heard anything or received any updated info as to if/when UGA may go to the waitlist (other than the email that stated "it is likely to be late May or June before anyone from the waitlist is admitted")? Do you all think the email sent to those who have deposited giving them a deadline of the 17th to reply will cause any movement on the waitlist?
