It's probably a way of soliciting interest which is a form of YP. I am actually thankful for the chance to let Columbia know how badly I would like to attend.JSWright101 wrote:orangec90 wrote:FYI I was scanning last year's Columbia thread and held applicants began hearing back the first/second week of April
Well if that's true that's kind of hilarious because I'm still waiting on NYU, Harvard (the JS2 at least), Stanford and Michigan and none of them had to 'hold' me to render their decisions at what will be roughly the same time.

So does it take a little under a month for a LOCI to be confirmed?

Re: Held at Columbia Thread
Yeah, another hold wave went out today.
So interesting to see this really weird gamble Columbia is taking, at the expense of applicants who are trying to make the most important decision of their lives. Really wish Columbia wasn't blatantly gaming the system at our expense this late in the cycle.

Re: Held at Columbia Thread
I understand their perspective, but I have to say that the YP is likely going to work against them for at least a few very strong candidates who were legitimately interested in Columbia. Starting the cycle Columbia was my first choice, and I'm still interested but if it ends up being April 25th before we hear back then its extremely unlikely I'll be attending for logistical reasons (this coming from someone who would have been ecstatic to go to CLS earlier in the cycle).

I'm curious to know how long people itt are willing to wait on CLS. As in, you might still consider it if they get back to you by next week but not any later, you'll hold on till the bitter end, etc. Maybe a poll OP?Nonconsecutive wrote:I understand their perspective, but I have to say that the YP is likely going to work against them for at least a few very strong candidates who were legitimately interested in Columbia. Re: Held at Columbia Thread
Definitely a fair point, considering my offers at this point CLS would definitely need to do me a solid with aid for them to rebound, but sadly I don't think I'm near Hammy material due to GPA.JSWright101 wrote:This completely. That could be interesting to see, though OP has been gone since September of last year.kershka wrote:I'm curious to know how long people itt are willing to wait on CLS. In fact, it's currently Held-->nothing so far for everyone. At least I think that's what we're at currently.

Belated check-in after being held 3/24.
Upon some reflection, I'm thankful to still be in the running.
Could they have let me know sooner? Sure. Should they be making decisions in a reasonable amount of time instead of holding out to see who drops off and protect their yield? Maybe.

I agree with this, it just is unfortunate that its very possible all the ASW dates (and that extra Monday) will have passed before we hear anything, if they push decisions to near the 25th.waferthinmint wrote:Belated check-in after being held 3/24.

Re: Held at Columbia Thread
True, it almost seems like they are making these decisions as they go. If they are going to hold so many and not give decisions until April, why have their ASWs before then? And why the spasmodic rounds of interviews? I just hope they're able to wrap it up nicely somehow and end up with tolerably fair outcomes. It seems like a web spun almost out of control.Nonconsecutive wrote:I agree with this, it just is unfortunate that its very possible all the ASW dates (and that extra Monday) will have passed before we hear anything, if they push decisions to near the 25th.waferthinmint wrote:Belated check-in after being held 3/24.
