Please critique my withdrawal letter
Tell me what you think:
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX
I was delighted to hear about your willingness to grant me admission to XXXXXXXXXXXX. As you might imagine, I have had an unusually high volume of mail from various institutions, and while I have reviewed the various pamphlets you were so kind to send me, as well as the information on your website, I regret that I will be unable to accept admission to your school at this time. I congratulate you on your decision to teach law, and I wish you the best with your other applicants. Have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
reebtoor

Re: Please critique my withdrawal letter
When I withdrew from some of the wait lists I was on I did it in a one sentence email.
Thanks for your consideration of my application for the class of 2013 via the wait list. I regret to inform you that I cannot keep my spot on the wait list.
Thank you,
me

if you really want to be a douche then tell them something about how they are qualified, but that you only have a limited amount of law schools you can attend and that you are sure that many excellent students will enroll there.

I'm not going to mock this post like some other people, because I'm not entirely sure it's a fake. However, if it is real, OP definitely needs to take out major chunks of the letter, especially the patronizing stuff about congratulating the recipient. That is out of line. Make it short and sweet, you don't have to explain yourself. You could accomplish your goal in one sentence, thanking them, and then saying you regret that you will be withdrawing. Good thing you posted it on here, again, if it is real.

I've been noticing a lot of Cornell hate on TLS. What's that all about? Did something happen this year?

If this is real, no offense because I'm sure you personally are not a douche, but this is the douchiest e-mail I've ever seen. It sounds like you're trying really hard not to hurt the little law school's feelings. Here's my counter-letter:
Dear Mr. X,
Thank you for your consideration of my application.
I ain't matriculating.
Have a great day.
Sincerely, etc.
If it's not real, I do think it's pretty funny. Better than the "rejection of your rejection" letter.

Re: Please critique my withdrawal letter
Why would you even send them this letter? Are you required to withdraw because you were admitted early decision somewhere else? If you were, show some fucking respect. There are probably lots of people that wish they could get into the school you are shitting all over. You aren't any better than they are.

First of all, I only have one rejection, while I have four acceptances. And yes, I get the irony there if that is what the OP is doing.Desert Fox wrote:Go compare this with your numerous rejection letters you are might get the joke.scionb4 wrote:Why would you even send them this letter? Re: Please critique my withdrawal letter
Damn, I cant wait to send out a withdrawal letter. It'll feel good to see a rejection going somewhere besides myself... I'm going to whip out an obnoxious familiar one: "I was unable to grant you a favorable decision" or "I have seen an increase in acceptances, approximately 2 more than expected, thus I regret that I must decline my attending your law school." Oooooooh I can't wait!!

Try this one instead. It works wonders.
Dear XXXX Law School Admissions Staff,
Over the course of this year’s law school admissions cycle, I have submitted applications to many excellent law schools such as yours. Unfortunately, no matter how compelling the establishment, a student can only attend one of the fine institutions to which they apply. I regret to inform you that you have not been selected for my attendance in the autumn of 2010. Nonetheless, your eminent quality convinces me that you will matriculate other top scholars this fall. My deepest thanks for considering me as a potential student, and best wishes in all of your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
XXXX
