It may be because Berkeley is quite left wing and Hergé was a fascist sympathizer...tintin wrote:hm, i guess they just don't love me as much!daviddel03 wrote:I sent my LOCI on the 3rd and received the auto reply. then on the 4th i got another email thanking me for the update.

Re: Berkeley Faculty Review Support Group 2010
And does anyone know:
Is FR more about soft factors/ps than the dean admissions were? Is this where they take a holistic approach or are they just going o start with the 178 3.9s and work their way down until they have filled 200 spots?[/quote]
I would super appreciate if someone could answer this question. If they really do start with the 170+ I'll give Berkeley a big smooch n say my goodbyes

I have a feeling that it's going to be about a holistic view of your application. I'm a 3.88/165 and I made it into FR. I'm guessing my softs are what got me there, because my LSAT is pretty mediocre.

I am pretty sure getting to FR was hollistic too (my numbers are way WAY below median and I am FR'd). I wonder what admission criteria FR will take now.

+1 on the holistic. 3.45/168 here, but I have a compelling "story" and pretty great softs. I was sure I was an auto-reject at Berk, so the FR email took me completely by surprise. Fingers crossed!

I haven't jumped on the LOCI bandwagon and probably don't plan to. I guess I'll find out how this strategy works out.

+1. I feel like they have enough to read without me sending them a LOCI that basically restates what I already said about my interest in Berkeley in my personal statement. Unless you really have something new to add, I don't see that it's necessary.hopefulincal wrote:I haven't jumped on the LOCI bandwagon and probably don't plan to. Woo! Let's go Berkeley!
I haven't sent a LOCI to Cal either. Might as well stay put and be zen.

As Berkeley is a clear top choice of mine, the prospect of thinking that I am about a week away from a most painful WL/rejection has caused me to start exploring my alternatives more seriously. Where do you think you'll end up if Berk. isn't the one for you?
NYU for me!
PS. I'm not sure how many of you have looked at the decisions for FR applicants on LSN...but it looks really bad

I hope the FR reviewers are looking closely at my softs. I've come so far, Berkeley. Please don't make it just about the numbers.

A tier 2 school. Which is exactly where my numbers will (should have) take(n) me if indeed it was all about the LSAT score...yet here we are at FR, defying the norm somewhat.TheWire wrote:As Berkeley is a clear top choice of mine, the prospect of thinking that I am about a week away from a most painful WL/rejection has caused me to start exploring my alternatives more seriously. Not sure if I count as URM. Ethnically Middle Eastern; born and raised there.

Wire- you'd go to Berkeley over NYU for sure? Why? In a dream-based world where I get in out of this FR batch, I'd have to make a similar decision...
And what's this about the decisions for FR applicants on LSN? Is it something from last year? I thought we knew that about 200/1500 of us are getting in...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
