When did you go into review? I've been in review since 3/1. This is after I spoke to pleasant lady in admissions who said they were turning applications around in 10 days.

I went into review on 2/24, so not that long before you did. I called them last week to see if they could give me an idea of where my application was in the process and the admissions person told me I should know something by the end of the month. She was just basing that estimate on the date I went into review, so I would think that same time frame would apply to you as well...

Hey Echelon, good luck with the mailman! If it helps, status checker changed to "Decision made" and I got the letter in the mail exactly 7 days later.

Hah! Rejected. 170 2.6 (last 6 semesters 3.91). I don't know if they yeild protect or if they just didn't like my GPA or something. Its funny to get waitlisted at all schools I applied to ranked 9-25, accepted at several in T2, and then rejected outright by Gonzaga. Oh well, they would have had to give me a full ride to consider living up there anyway since I'm in @ UO with a decent finaid package.

Good luck to the rest.

Hey all,

I'm going to be flying into Spokane around April 9th for a couple days. I'll be checking out the law school and surrounding areas. Anyone from the area have any ideas on what to do for a weekend in the city? Also, I'm going to start looking for somewhere to live for the year. Anyone have any tips on the areas current law students are living in? If anyone has been admitted and wants to PM, I'm always open to conversation.

Looking forward to the campus visit and I'll let ya guys know what I come across.

Depending on your interests and tastes, I can suggest a bunch of stuff to do in Spokane. It's not exactly the liveliest city, though.

As for housing, there are some on-campus options, such as the Kennedy Apartments, which just opened a few years ago. They are nice and include all utilities and cable, but it costs about $6,000 for nine months. Kennedy is mostly undergrads, though. I only knew a few graduate students who lived in there. It's definitely a high price to pay, and Kennedy is located on the complete opposite side of campus from the law school. The law school itself is somewhat isolated from the rest of the UG campus.

If you live in the Logan neighborhood around campus, it's going to be dirt cheap. Unfortunately, though, the area around Gonzaga is not the greatest, as it's the second poorest neighborhood in the state of Washington. There's a lot of crime and burglary, including assaults, house break-ins, and car break-ins/theft. In the course of a week, a friend had his car broken into twice, and the side door on his garage was smashed in with a sledgehammer or something. It's definitely not safe to walk in Logan after dark, even if you're in a group. Also, "Spokies" sometimes come on campus doing weird things or harassing students, though that is much rarer. 95% of the problems occur out in the neighborhood. Needless to say, the relationship between the Logan neighborhood and GU students is strained at best, unfortunately.

If you have a car and don't mind driving to school, I'd recommend finding a place on South Hill. It's a much nicer area of Spokane, and I don't think rent costs much more than around Gonzaga. Your best bet would be to talk to current law students about housing because I honestly don't know much about what the law students actually do for housing. But, if you can, I'd recommend staying away from the Logan neighborhood.

I probably should have offered this help before, but if anyone wants more info about Spokane or Gonzaga in general, fire away.

Hey MBZ,

Thanks a bunch for the input and your willingness to answer questions. I definitely need to hear stuff like this from residents around the area. I have a little bit of info. on some areas that law students are currently living in and I will also def. check out the Kennedy area. Are you a current LS at GU?

When you say the law school is isolated from the rest of campus, how far are we talking? 2 blocks? Do many students use public transportation to reach campus/get around the city?

I'm coming from WAY out of state, so finding roommates and living arrangements is turning out to be a major pain. I'll figure it all out soon, but I'm just beginning the process. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks again.

Not disputing any personal experiences you've had MBZags, but as someone born and raised in Spokane and with many friends who grew up around Gonzaga/St. Al's Elementary in the Logan neighborhood I think you're overstating how dangerous the area is. I've never had any problems walking around at night (or day) and I have always felt safe in the neighborhood. Although it does get sketchier the farther north you go away from campus.
The South Hill is the nicest area of Spokane, so agree that would be a good option. Browne's Addition is a cool neighborhood too, though it's also a couple miles from campus so you might need a car from there as well.

Chroanizz, I'm not a law student at GU, but the few I know live either on/around campus or the lower South Hill towards downtown area. Might be best to ask them yourself when you visit.
The law school is on campus, it's just a little bit south of the main undergrad buildings. It's actually located right near the river next to the Baseball stadium and Mac Center (Basketball). There's a campus map here: http://www.gonzaga.edu/About/campus-map.asp
As far as public transport, there is the STA, which is the city bus system if you need it. But Gonzaga isn't too far from downtown where most bars/restaurants/etc. are located so it's not a bad walk/bike ride assuming there isn't snow on the ground.
Anyway, hope this helps. If you have any other questions about the city, feel free to ask. Enjoy your visit :D

I graduated from Gonzaga UG.

First, Bohemka is probably right about my exaggeration, but I still don't think the area is very safe. I'm referring more to the area that's across Hamilton, though, and not the area by St. Al's and right within the campus area. For students, the surrounding neighborhood has gotten worse every year. During my freshman year, we never really heard much about problems in the Logan neighborhood; but by my senior year, there have been many problems. There were at least two sexual assaults this year, multiple people with their houses broken into, many car break-ins, and many electronics stolen. Even last week, a group of students walking back from downtown and right past the law school were harassed and then assaulted with brass knuckles by a group of locals for seemingly no reason. Last year, I knew more than a couple people who had a shotgun pulled on them when walking through the neighborhood. Campus Security keeps a blog and sends us updates when something major happens. The area is just not desirable, in my opinion, and there are many better options.

Gonzaga's campus is small, and you can get across campus in about 10 minutes (maybe 15 if you're going from the law school to Kennedy). The law school is technically still on campus, but it's not in the main hub, so to speak. If you go to the interactive map, you'll see what I mean: http://www.gonzaga.edu/About/campus-map.asp. Crosby (the student center), College Hall (people call it after its own name, Admin, so don't get confused), the COG (cafeteria and bookstore), Foley Library, and all the area in there basically constitute the middle of campus. To get to the law school, you have to walk to the edge of campus, and there's no other reason to go down there unless you want to catch a baseball game at the new stadium. Law students rarely, if at all, come up to the main part of campus. If they do, they hide themselves well because it's community where everyone knows everyone.

As for transportation, students rarely use public transit. It's kind of sketchy, first of all. Second, at least for UG, a lot of the students come from affluent backgrounds, so many of them have cars. If they don't have cars, they usually bum rides if they need to. But a car really isn't necessary unless you're living far from campus; I survived three years without one. There's a Safeway and the two main GU bars (Jack and Dan's and The Bulldog) close by, and the downtown area is accessible through the Centennial Trail. The Trail itself provides some really awesome scenic views. If it's a nice day when you visit, you should definitely take a walk on it. I usually jog on the trail when it's nice, and the parking lot at the law school is usually pretty full, for what it's worth. Since undergrads can't park down there, and there's no reason for them to, I'd say that a good amount of the law students have cars.

I'd love to help prospective students with any information, so keep on asking if you want to know anything.

I grew-up there... Spokane is the armpit of Washington. Monster-trucks, methamphetamines, jean shorts, and racism are a daily occurrence. South Hill is a decent area as is Brown's addition, but check north, way north, by the Spokane Country Club and you'll find high-end houses for cheap. Housing overall is CHEAP! 250K can buy a lot of house! It probably goes without saying, there are way more lawyers than jobs in Spokane.

As for crime, I've walked every street there, day or night. NYC it is not. It has a good music scene, but it's a tight crew. Getting drunk is the only reliable fun you can have. If you're looking for a relationship.... comb the high schools because EVERYONE with a slight chance at a future LEAVES. I think its 96% white... and with similar conservative values.

Need employment info, PM me.

I got waitlisted 2.84/162 with an upward grade trend (3.6 senior year at UW after time away from school). After getting an initial acceptance at Loyola Chicago I am stuck on the waitlist at Willamette and Gonzaga. I would actually rather go to one of these two schools than Chicago just because it wouldn't be as far for my wife and I to move.

I'm planning on sending a letter to both explaining why I want to stay in the NW (born and raised woot!)

Honestly I'm surprised I wasn't admitted looking at Gonzaga and Willamette's graphs on lawschoolnumbers, but what can you do? At least I'm in somewhere, and I'm sure Chicago would be a blast.

That's actually funny. I'm accepted at Gonzaga but waitlisted at Loyola Chicago. I really want off that waitlist too! I have to second all the discussion about Spokane. You really have to try and find entertaining things to do. The summer's are great weather wise, but as far as living in Spokane, that's a major reason I won't be attending this school in the fall.

Accepted with 13,500 a year- took a while for the letter to get here, I was getting anxious. Now I just have to wait for an answer from Seattle U to make a definite decision. I am going to withdraw from Willamette tomorrow (with a little scholarship $) - hopefully that opens up a waiting list spot!

Hey!! Congrats dude, bet you're relieved to get a response. If you get accepted to Seattle, do you think you'll head there instead of GU? With schools you've applied to, it sounds like you're from the area?

Hi - Thanks! I would love to be in Seattle, but I think it's really going to come down to how much more Seattle living + Seattle tuition would cost me compared to Spokane living + Gonzaga tuition; and I have a feeling the difference between the two is going to be enough of an incentive to go to Gonzaga, but we'll see! Spokane isn't all that bad and I can live anywhere (within reason) for three years, plus not having as many distractions or things to do would probably be a good thing. I am from Kalispell, MT, so it'd be nice to be close to home for a little while, I definitely want to stay in the NW in the future.
