I didn't see another thread about SLU. My decision was made yesterday and now I'm waiting for my letter. Has anyone else heard yet? How long did your letter take to come?

I received a letter around Jan. 8th. I wasn't checking my status checker regularly so I'm not sure when the decision was made. I was accepted; there was no scholarship info in the package.
Good Luck!

I never even got a confirmation email from St. Louis U. Got my acceptance in the mail yesterday. Insert said I was under review for a scholarship but decisions aren't made until later.

LSAT 165, gpa 2.8,..degree gpa is 4.0, with 10 years inbetween when first went to undergrad and then when went back,..hoping they take that into consideration when looking at possible scholarships,...

chameleon, are you looking to stay within STL or the midwest? With your #'s, you may have a shot at I-UB with some money! However, I know that for SLU to climb back into the rankings, they are going to need to start boosting the 75th % from a 159 so they may toss some serious cash your way.

Last year, I received a full-ride with a 168/4.0!

My top choices are in NY and CA because I know I want to practice on a coast -- I applied to St Louis because they sent me a nice email about their health law program and waived the app fee, plus I have family in the area and my mom went to St Louis U ... if they offer me a ton of money I'll consider them more seriously though! I am not looking forward to having to juggle work and school as a 1L.

My mom went there too, and I was recently accepted. I may well withdraw in the next seven days though---if so, I'll let everyone here know :D

Be leary of their healthcare law ranking. Unfortunately, this is simply not a program that elite firms looking for new associates to add to the healthcare practices recruit at ... landing at job at any of the NLJ 250 St. Louis firms requires that you pretty much be in the top 10% (some exceptions made for those graduating in the top 20%).

The status checker just said they made a decision and a letter will follow. Hey, at least it's something.

Check your alternative email. When my status flipped to that, they assigned me a @slu.edu email address and a secondary email. I got the acceptance letter this morning.

For those who have been admitted, but are still waiting on scholarship notification, I actually had some success in negotiating additional scholarship amounts with SLU. In fact, I took the Feb LSAT and was able to pull out a a near-full ride scholarship. I did find though that with respec to scholarships, the admissions office does seem to have a matrix that they follow. I found that 2 points was the difference b/w $45K and $90K.

SLU kind of has an unusual description of what they look for in a personal statement:

"Used as a way for students to set themselves apart, the personal statement is an important part of the application process. With the additional information provided in the statement, the Admissions Committee looks beyond LSAT scores and undergraduate G.P.A. in order to gain insight into a student's individual character. As such, information regarding personal or professional goals, academic performance and career history are helpful. Attention is given to brevity and clarity of thought and expression."

I'm about to apply and I'm starting to think I should revise it so that it fits this description. I don't talk about my academics performance for my career history at all in my PS. Is this necessary? Did all of you include that information in your PS for SLU? Because all of this info is in my resume, I feel like it redundant to mention it again.

Also, does anyone know how difficult it is to get a job in other areas of Missouri (i.e., KC or small towns) with a degree from SLU?

Well, I don't see a secondary email address on the status checker info, just my original one. I have a 166/3.75, so I really hope I didn't get rejected.... I'm probably reading too much into this, though.

Received an e-mail invite to apply for an 1843 Scholarship, so that answers the question about what the decision was. Now, to compose yet another essay! I think I've written more addenda and essays than I did in my English courses last semester!

Woot, 2 of 2 so far (Chapman and SLU).

I sent in my application on Jan. 18th and still haven't got an email saying they have received it yet/status checker. Is that weird? Should I call the admissions dept? Thanks!

I don't think that they sent me any such notice last year until I actually received the letter / packet of acceptance.

Did anyone apply to their summer institute for conditional acceptance?

I think you have to have had some type of hardship in your life to apply for this. Otherwise, I would have.

So I got in with a scholarship but I don't know much about the school. I applied because of the fee waiver and ranking. What is the job market like out there? My wife is looking for work while I go back to school. Certainly the weather there would be better than Buffalo which is the other school I'm considering.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
