lol I was being totally sarcastic about adding that sentence. Definitely wasn't trying to sound douchey. Crap. SUPER paranoid now. I thought I was just sending a respectful straight-forward withdraw email. :/

Relax..it isnt that bad.

But the part I thought was the kind of bad part, fyi, was this sentence

Although GULC was one of my top law school choices during the beginning of this application cycle, my circumstances have since changed in that I will not be matriculating at Georgetown if offered admission off of the waitlist.

other than that, it's fine.

You're totally fine. I don't know what everyone's freaking out about. No other school would know or even find out.

Except GULC, if you decided to retake and reapply next year, which seems unlikely now that you're in at Mich.

Ahhh. You have me freaking out now. I tried to make it as soft of a rejection as I could... I see how difficult AdComms' jobs are now lol. I guess I should have ended with "Good luck on your future endeavors but unfortunately, there are a lot of competitive law schools out there and I can't attend more than one."
Oh no!!! Your email was super polite, I'm just uber paranoid, like I said. Sorry, blah >_<

And derangedwang, I don't have any proof of this, sorry. It's more like...legend? But I think at some point someone showed me the dude's LSN. It's been a while though, like a year since someone told me about it.

Dear Harvard,

I knew this was coming. Thank you for sparing me from three years in the cesspool that is Cambridge. People at your school are miserable. That's all I got, peace.

Dear NYU, Stanford and Berkeley:

Just reject me already! I don't believe I've been "under review" since October 14th. I'm totally psyched to send in my deposit to GULC and start looking for housing...sooooo...let's make this snappy.

Thanks! Love,

Tired of Waiting

It was a fine e-mail. I thought you had actually redacted something from the original message that was the bad part, and that was what everyone was freaking out about. If that's how the e-mail read when you sent it, then you're completely alright.

I can't stop laughing at the d-bag. So you want to go to LS so bad that you ED to CLS. Then you decide you can't play by the rules and exactly what people told you would happen did happen. Then you get mad and start cursing the LS scam. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Truth is, had he not gotten dinged, he'd be paying sticker at CLS and would be loving every minute of it.

Forget you Cooley. I didn't want to work endless hours in the guaranteed $200k/year job I would have landed in Big Law upon my graduation anyway.

I feel like I should shoot a preemptive strike at Yale. Nobody Likes YOU. You smell weird and your mother dresses you funny and New Haven blows. Also, the whole "mysterious black box admissions thing" is overdone, pretentious, and a little insecure.

Withdrawal emails are fine, but there's no reason in saying anything other than "I would like to withdrawal." For example, here's an email I sent last year:

Hello,

I am writing to be withdrawn from the X Law School waitlist for the incoming class. Because I have accepted a binding admission at another law school, I would kindly request receipt of this request.

Thank You,
Descartes

Note that you can swap in "To Whom It May Concern:" for extra formality or a simple "Good Afternoon." You can also delete the entire last line if it doesn't apply to you. Please note that any mention of "Gentlepersons" or whatever else derp flies from people's lips around here is probably eyebrow-raising, at the least.

^ Nahh, Don't worry about it. They receive hundreds of these emails. Gentlepersons will get a chuckle... might even be forwarded around the admissions office for some communal laughs, but they will then immediately forget about you. You'll have to be much, much more egregiously hostile to warrant infamy or retribution. It just wasn't bad. It was overwhelmingly neutral.

FWIW, all formal emails we write to people we don't have names for at the firm I'm currently working at begins with "Dear Gentlepersons,". (Most of the letters I open from other law firms addressed to more than one attorney at this firm also begins with "Dear Gentlepersons".) It's just a force of habit from typing up hundreds of dictated emails.

THE DING BAR is underachieving this cycle. Hopefully it's just getting warmed up. (Although the UVA & GW posts were pretty good)

In all fairness, Ding season (the meaty part of it) starts this week, so this thread should pick up.
