Quick and rather urgent question. If my recommender is sending the LOR straight to Harvard, does it still need the waiver from LSAC? Or some kind of waiver?

I e-mailed them and they told me they prefer LORS to be sent via LSDAS.

oh, how do you do that after applying? if i just assign a new letter to HLS will they get it?

I thought someone earlier said HLS told them it was ok to mail LORs directly to them...argh.

Ahhhhhhh. Conflicting information! What to do :|

- Have your recommender send a new LOR directly to HLS via mail, and they'll match it with your file.

I might send a LOCI if I get held (notice I'm still waiting  ). Anyone know whether to:

-mention other acceptances?
-mention LSAT improvement?
-mention some new program/course etc. that further interests you

Also, is it good (if it is true) to go all out and say "if accepted, I will definitely withdraw other offers and attend"

-mention other acceptances? no
-mention LSAT improvement? yes
-mention some new program/course etc. that further interests you might as well

i don't know about what HLS is OK with, but i called LSAC and if you just assign a new letter it should get to them. mine already was marked mailed after about a day. i already had a backup in the LSDAS system though.

I knew I'd end up in this thread eventually. I just received the hold email. Submitted 10/28, complete 11/19, JR1 12/22. Guess I'll settle in for a long stay.

I feel somewhat better knowing that they are dinging people and I only got held, but... meh. it is just a delay anyway.

This is now a moot point for me  but with a view towards it anyway:

Why wouldn't someone mention acceptance to YS or CCN? (wish I had that!) Wouldn't Harvard say "damn! We didn't realize they were so good until now!"

iuno, they are harvard. why do they care where else you got in? they have thousands more applicants to choose from, you know?

If someone were to get into S or Y, I think that would be an indication of their quality. H might realize "maybe we didn't consider them fully" which I'm sure must happen.

Certainly, getting accepted by Y and arguably S would indicate great merit/potential in an applicant. This should, however, already be evident from his or her application. Any name-dropping for the purpose of getting off a WL will likely backfire because it could easily appear egotistical and/or whiny.

Also, it's Harvard. Come on.

Wasn't expecting to join this club! Applied 10/31, held today. No JR1.

Probably delaying the inevitable, but still I didn't expect anything other than an outright ding!

Maybe I'm just not enthralled enough by the "H bomb". I always viewed HLS as this big, cold mill. Of course that's been fueled further by places like TLS. Anyway, I got dinged today, so my time devoted to HLS is now past. But I am always surprised by H winning every comparison by the old "it's Harvard!" prestige appeal.

Is it generally better to send in an updated transcript even if my gpa fell if I was held?

Also, can we send in a updated LOR from the same recommender? Thanks guys.

I can't give you a solid answer to your first question, but you should not send in a LOR from someone who already recommended you.

Held this morning. Anyone want to help me with a musical about harvard's awesomeness? I'll write the score.
