I saw this once (WUSTL) and chose not to respond, as it was optional.

At the end of the day, how honest do you have to be on these questions? What if you decide to apply to more later? Is it any of the schools' business?

Usually they had a given number of spaces, so I just filled the spaces (6 schools or so).

Only a few schools asked me, and I just wrote all that fit and didn't worry too much about it.

And, I'm applying to 13, though a few are way reaches.

Kind of regretting not applying to more - I didn't even apply to a few T14 schools that I had received fee waivers from. I hope I don't miss out on some good scholarship leveraging because of it.
