I got in because I'm a Combat Veteran, that was recalled to active duty as I was preparing for the LSAT while preparing for deployment, and then took the test once again while in the Middle East during operations. I have an MBA from UCSD, I'm over 30 with over 10 years of work experience both military, financial planning, and tech consulting, applied early (Oct). Before the cries of you only go in because you're a URM start, let me say that there are plenty of URMs that don't have my UGPA and my LSAT, both of which are well below the median. I'm truly a case where the Adcom looked beyond the numbers
Yes you are. You'd have to be a celebrity (or combat vet with great softs) to get in with those numbers. Congrats! I have a feeling your numbers don't tell the story of your potential, abilities and accomplishments. And your applications must have reflected that.

I don't think many of the people posting have a grasp of what a reach is. A reach isn't just a school that you would of have a difficult time getting in to, it also has to be basically written off for all intents and purposes. Being above the 25% mark in both GPA and LSAT means that the school is most definitively not a reach.

GPA: 2.79
LSAT: 155
URM: Yes

School: Tennessee

Possible reasons: Sent in a PS and DS (and addendum for multiple LSAT/low GPA), work experience during college

Really surprised considering I'm OOS for Tennessee and also received a scholarship.

Unless you're a URM, being at or just above both 25%'s means you ARE written off for all intents and purposes.

wow! that's a mighty fast decision.... Perhaps they are using a LIFO model for how they review apps?

Please follow this template:

GPA: 3.19 , LSAT 159
URM: Cuban

NAME OF REACH SCHOOL(S): Fordham

Optional Essay: Nope

Finally, what you think (totally subjective) got you into that school: Who knows. I applied early; I'm Cuban (which I thought was only a small boost compared to Mexican or Puerto Rican Latinos); and I went to a "prestigious" undergrad, but I really don't think that matters too much.

What month you sent in applications: September

GPA: 3.45 , LSAT 176
URM: Y/N, if Y then which type

NAME OF REACH SCHOOL(S)
Columbia

Optional Essay: Y/N, If Y then which essay did you write.

Finally, what you think (totally subjective) got you into that school.
-Great PS. ED. Strong upward grade trend.
Sent in Late October/Early November

Edit: I think we should also add what month you sent in applications.

That is absolutely not a reach. Did you look at any of the admissions predicting sites, or LSN? What is your index, 3.5, 3.4? Congrats though.

Edit: I know it's really tempting to post in this thread, but don't just brag about admissions that you're proud of that weren't reaches. I'm kind of sad that I can never post in this thread. Even if I get into Yale, I can't consider that a reach. Obviously it's a good thing though that I can't post in this thread, as fun as it would be.

School: Washington and Lee

3.18 (TV production) / 161 (left during), 166

I dont know if it was a huge reach other than my GPA being low, but I also got some $$ which makes it seem more "reachy". That being said it was one of the higher ranked schools I applied to. Ive been living in NY and working in TV production, dealing with some legal stuff such as clearances, rights, contacts etc.

For someone who is from VA and not sure if he wants to stay there, go to DC or back to NY it was a great fit with some $$.

I had a great LOR from our company lawyer/ VP of operations about all the legal issues I dealt with, how well I did, etc. I think that plus my work experience in general may have gotten me in.

Yeah, seriously. I love how one guy posted something that wasn't a reach, and then right after somebody posts a very legitimate reach to the same school. Could you give us more details please, H2O? Congratulations!
