Yeah, definitely. When I saw how much apartments cost in Philly, I was impressed. I'm not going to be getting any financial aid (my parents are rich, but haven't paid for college...), and one of my friends is at Columbia and is starving on what he can get out of loans. So, I'll just save up and hopefully have more money at hand.
I can't really save up a lot before school, but I think that, if I can either get a studio or share an apartment with a roommate, I can save some money there. Though I would rather pay more and be close to campus.
Are you definitely going, puppins?

I mean, if I got into Yale or Harvard, I would be stupid to turn them down for Penn, even though I like Penn more than Harvard. And I guess if Penn doesn't give me any $$, and NYU or Columbia does, and Penn wasn't willing to negotiate, then I would have to take that into consideration. But as of right now, I am planning my life around going to Penn next year.

Yeah, I'm hoping for money. Money from Northwestern could sway me away.

I know! I've found some great apartments! I think that I want to live across the river in CC.

Legal writing is not graded though and ends shortly after Thanksgiving so it's not terrible at all first semester (or ever really...). Second semester is two mandatory classes (4 creds each) and 2 electives (3 creds each) as well as legal writing. The electives are not completely elective in that there are two categories of classes you have to take (one class from each). One category is regulatory (Environmental law, Admin, International law etc) and the other is perspectives (intellectual property, chinese law, law and equality etc). It's a lot of work but not too terrible looking back on it :)
Hehe I got cross thread quoted... sexy :)

I'll post another congrats to new admits in this thread, I feel like I'm a congrats whore with all of these penn acceptance threads haha

Feel free to send me (Penn 2L) questions if you have them (or dig up the Penn Students taking Questions thread).

Congrats!!

I want to but it is more expensive. Plus I want to find somewhere to park my car. Not really sure what to do about that.

That's how I am too. I'll have a car (unless I sell). Don't want to drive to law school, sounds like a nightmare, but it'd be nice to have. I heard that UC has plentiful parking.

Congrats, this really is a great place to go to school (and I'm a 1L during finals time and I still have nothing but good things to say)

I don't want to sell my car. I like it, and while I DEFINITELY don't want to commute to school in my car, I want to have it for weekends and summers.

There is street parking in some areas of Philly if you have a Philly drivers license and all that jazz. Otherwise you can find a place with parking (usually it lists it in the add) or you can find a parking garage and pay monthly (I know 2400 has a parking garage as does the Left Bank).

Do you want to comment on the where-to-live controversy, the parking of cars issue, or explain how clinicals work in your general schedule? can you do them after classes as a 1L? are they only available as elective courses?

Hi all. Right now I think Penn is my fav of the schools I've actually gotten into.

What is the best area for students to live in that is within a 15 minute walk of the law school? I have heard there are some areas of Philly that are pretty sketchy and I'm a tiny girl so I want somewhere safe. university city? I too will have a car, but I don't want to be driving to the school.

Yo. Glad to be in this thread. Got in last week.

For those who don't know Philly -- it's a great city. I lived there for a while after college. I lived cheap (although I'd pick a safer neighborhood next time) and had some great times. There's a lot going on and so many cities are nearby -- NYC, Baltimore, D.C.

Congrats to all!

If you want safety AND walking distance, then University City is likely your best bet. As long as you don't go to far west into west Philly, you'll be a-OK in that zone.

In my experience, Philly and campus police are really vigilant 24/7 in places with a lot of students.

Maybe you only imagined the phone call...

That had, sadly, been a worry of mine until I got the actual letter.

Yknow, I really only applied to Penn because it seemed like I should. But after getting in and doing some major looking at them, I REALLY like Penn.

Perhaps...
