violaboy -- I thought we were required to submit NeedAccess no matter what...ie even if we knew we were just going to be taking out loans. I don't anticipate getting any need-based aid if they know my parents' income either. And I know they also won't be paying a cent. Did you call the admissions office?

Re: IN AT PENN
On all the sites I've seen (include UPenn Law), it said that if you just need federal loans, just fill out the personal part of the FAFSA. Maybe I'm wrong, in which case, I'd better get on it!alex06 wrote:violaboy -- I thought we were required to submit NeedAccess no matter what...ie even if we knew we were just going to be taking out loans. I'm staying at the Comfort Inn downtown. All of the other hotels were practically $200/night.lz06 wrote:Any advice on somewhere to stay in Philly thats cheap? I don't really care where as long as its near a subway or some form of transportation cause I won't have a car.

Had no idea this thread existed until today. Accepted ED, going to ASW. Went to reception in my hometown last weekend. It was pretty cool, and the alums I talked to (Class of '09) highly recommended getting a Wharton certificate. They said employers look really highly upon it, and the application process is pretty much a joke. They also said the Wharton classes were much easier than LS classes and they didn't really interfere with their other courses (if I recall correctly, they said you only need four classes for the certificate).

Re: IN AT PENN
I submitted my FAFSA already and I'm working on my NeedAccess Form now. Do we need to send actual copies of our (our parents) 2009 income tax forms to the Penn financial aid office by March 1st? An answer to this question would be GREATLY appreciated!

The meeting will consist of you and her sitting across from one another in uncomfortable wooden chairs spaced about three feet apart. For one hour you will stare directly at each other. Occasionally the dean will look away to jot something on a yellow legal pad she will have in her lap, scoffing derisively as she does so. After one hour, she will simply say "Get out." Do as she says.lz06 wrote:Has anyone done an individual visit? I'm going next week and they just sent me my schedule, it looks like I'll be meeting with Dean Post for an hour.. I really, really want that Wharton certificate, but I haven't taken a business class in my life, and I feel like there is no way I get allowed into 3-4 classes without even a distantly relevant pre-req.clevinger33 wrote:Had no idea this thread existed until today. You may be right, but from the way they made it sound, you pretty much just turn a form in and register for the classes. They both went straight from undergrad to LS, so it seems unlikely that they had any real business experience. I think they said they might've taken an econ class or two in undergrad, but nothing more. The Kim Jong illest wrote:I really, really want that Wharton certificate, but I haven't taken a business class in my life, and I feel like there is no way I get allowed into 3-4 classes without even a distantly relevant pre-req.clevinger33 wrote:Had no idea this thread existed until today. Re: IN AT PENN
I took (bombed) econ, but the way Penn's certificates work is that there are no prereqs for the program at all, but individual professors may have pre-reqs for their courses that you'd still need to have covered.clevinger33 wrote:You may be right, but from the way they made it sound, you pretty much just turn a form in and register for the classes. I applied 1/20 and have still not gone complete. Time to send an email/make a phone call, or is anyone else in the same situation?

Can someone PLEASE tell me what is needed for financial aid besides FAFSA and NeedAccess? Do we need to send in our tax forms to the financial aid office?

My understanding is that those two things will suffice for March 1. Call them if you're worried.groundkontrol wrote:Can someone PLEASE tell me what is needed for financial aid besides FAFSA and NeedAccess? Do we need to send in our tax forms to the financial aid office?

Re: IN AT PENN
Violaboy--thanks for the clarification! I ended up just submitting FAFSA.
Has anyone who didn't get an invite for a named scholarship gotten any information about merit aid? I've gotten scholarships of about two years tuition at equivalently ranked schools, so I'm doing a LOT more hesitating than I thought I would (Penn's my top choice). Anyone have advice as to whether I should contact Penn about scholarship negotiation now...or if I should wait until they get back to me?
Also, I'm super jealous of those of you who are getting to go to ASW. Is there a plan to report what happened and discuss a lot on TLS?

+1 about scholarships. Penn is the last school I have to hear from about scholarships, and while I really want to go, I can't pass up money at other places for sticker at Penn.alex06 wrote:Violaboy--thanks for the clarification! I ended up just submitting FAFSA.

I'm excited for ASW. We'll probably all talk about it on here before and after.
