The only reason UNC wins is because of its location. Otherwise, Wake is fantastic.

Sounds like everyone who visits really likes Wake. I can't recall really hearing anything negative, other than the facilities not exactly being to die for.

I heartily disliked it during my tour - I felt like there should've been butlers walking around everywhere. My 3L guide got lost (how does that happen), and the admissions staff was very blatantly ignoring some people, while hovering over others.

Really? Not that I'm disagreeing with you, I've just never heard this before. When I think top 10 most selective, I think, you know...Yale or something. And I love UNC Law, but it's no Yale.

Yale is #1 most selective, but that leaves 9 spots behind it. UNC is legit in the top-10 most selective--admission percentage is usually around 12-15%. Compare that to most schools which are above 30%

Who knows ... maybe I'll find my way back to North Carolina someday. Make a few shekels, get a summer home near the Outer Banks.

Have to be satisfied with fishing on Lake Michigan in the meantime, I guess.

Hey guys, I applied to UNC on Nov. 1 and I still have not had any sort of reply whatsoever. I go to UNC-Wilmington and have a GPA of 3.5 and an LSAT score of 160. So at this stage of the application process what do you think I should expect? I anticipate a rejection or a withdrawal, but it seems odd I haven't received either of those yet so I continue to hope for a late acceptance letter. UNC is by far my number one choice, and I really hope to get in, but with my last set of deposits due on May 1 to the schools I have been accepted to, I can't continue just keep waiting while my other offers are pulled off the table. I appreciate any comments, good or bad.

I definitely meant to write waitlist instead of withdrawal, but I'm sure you guys picked up on that.

Sure you can keep waiting. If UNC really is your #1 throw your deposit down at the other school and wait it out. Even if you lose your deposit but ultimately get into UNC you will most likely save yourself money in the long run. This is assuming you are in-state for UNC... While $500 is large amount to throw away, it doesn't really compare to the debt most of us will be taking on over the next few years.

As far as what you should expect? Your guess is as good as ours... I applied in late November and got my waitlist notification through snail mail a couple of weeks ago... I think acceptances, waitlists, and rejections are all over the place for UNC. It's really unpredictable.

Did anyone join the UNC c/o 2013 group on facebook? It got deleted pretty quickly. Apparently UNC was starting their own c/o 2013 group. I haven't seen it around yet, although I find it unlikely that UNC would make their own...maybe they just didn't want some random UNC Law group up?

I just got back from a tour of UNC. I thought it was a beehive of activity, which was very reassuring. There is a strong community atmosphere, and it seemed like everyone was very comfortable. The class I sat in on was very engaging. Even though there were about 80 students, the professor did a great job of connecting with the students and there was a higher level of class participation than I have seen at any other school. The campus is beautiful, as anyone can tell you, and I was also pleased with the large number of opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom, especially with respect to public service, which is my preferred area.

Based on the information I received, their decisions will be out by May 1st. I imagine this is a pretty stressful time for everyone involved, so do what you can to be patient. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to sit down with an admissions officer after the tour was over, and I can say that I really appreciated how frank and honest she was about many different issues. Overall I had a great experience.

I would expect a waitlist based on LSN (although their data for UNC is very limited).

THEY DID! THEY DID! A group of CLA (Carolina Law Ambassadors) created the group and it's listed as Carolina Law 2013 or something like that. There are only 19 people in the group right now and you have to request to join. There have been a few wall posts and the CLAs are quick to respond. Apparently, as part of orientation, there's a softball game between 1Ls and professors! Can't wait!

Well, many things.

I asked about the possibilities in international law, and she gave me the contact information of people in career services. She was clear that it was important if you wanted to find out if there was a specific path to the field of law you are interested in, and the prospective opportunties upon graduation, then it's a good idea to speak with career services in advance. She was very up front about a lot of mistakes that applicants make, and the ways that UNC can prepare you for a job. (I'll be totally honest, she mentioned a fact that many of you already know, people in admissions do read these boards, and it's not hard to connect a statement to the individual...a fact which makes me think twice before posting anything at all now, knowing it will probably be read...however, much information from this site has been invaluable to me, and I think it's only fair to share anything I have learned in case it can help others.)

She asked me several pointed questions, I think to get a better feel for who I was, including "Why Carolina?" She also asked me if I had included an explanation of my GPA in my application. I discussed my own reasons for wanting to get into law, and there was a fair amount of discussion about UNC as it relates to post-graduate job opportunities (a large percentage, not surprisingly, work within the state of NC--I think she said about 80%), and how UNC is a school where people are very focused on public interest work, which is a contrast to some other legal environments. It was a very back and forth discussion. I did not anticipate the chance to sit and have a conversation at length, and she clearly wasn't expecting me, because I didn't have an appointment, so I was very glad that she took the time to talk. It's strange, I feel that coming out of that meeting, I was lucky enough to have the chance to be more than a name on a piece of paper, and however the decision is rendered, that at least someone at UNC has a good understanding of the type of person that I am.

She also stressed that they were working hard in admissions to get all the applications processed and returned, and that she knew how difficult it could be waiting for that decision. I think they have some pretty late nights this time of year, and some difficult decisions to make, but I'm not too bothered by the waiting, mainly because I know that I have done what I can do up to this point, and worrying over the issue won't make it any better.

If you have any particular questions I can try and answer them, although I am by no means an expert, I would be happy to give my opinion. Oh, yeah, that's one more thing, she brought up the fact that there is a high degree of collegiality and teamwork at UNC, contrasted with the intense and competitive environment you find at some schools. As someone who is coming from a profession that is very collaborative in nature, that was very reassuring.

I was complete Jan 7 and I called admissions. They told me I haven't even gone under review. Is this a joke?!?! How do they get students. You'd think they thought they were Harvard.

At what point can I just angrily email UNC demanding my application fee back? Its the second week of April and I haven't heard a WORD from them. It's ridiculous.

I think I'm pretty much done with UNC. Even though I'm in-state and on the WL, Rutgers has given me in-state tuition and a ton of $$. Ya, it is lower ranked, but the lack of debt and the ability to finally get out of North Carolina are really enthralling to me.

Though I realize most people wont understand my decision on here, it feels good to go to a school that actually wants you, instead of waiting for one that doesnt seem to have its act together. I'm not gonna withdraw from the WL (I paid them $$, and Im not about to just throw it down the drain willingly), but I'm also not going to worry myself over LOCI's and things of that nature - whatever happens happens.
