Re: University of North Carolina 2013
Was waitlisted a little after 8pm tonight. I suppose it's better than a ding. And I guess I can't complain about my cycle - only applied to two schools - one acceptance and one waitlist.

Re: University of North Carolina 2013
For those of you who were waitlisted tonight, are you in-state? Also, if it isn't too intrusive, what are your stats?
I emailed Admissions yesterday just to make sure they actually had my application. They wrote back really quick with:
"Yes, you are currently being reviewed by the admissions committee. Hopefully we can generate a decision for you soon, before May 1st, 2010. If are still worried and concerned, I might suggest to call me directly to discuss this matter.
Otherwise, your patience is appreciated."
I thought it was pretty cordial.

Yep, I'm in-state. Carolina grad, 164, 2.8 (thus the huge surprise i made it to the waitlist) but with a significant upward projection of grades.

Was actually surprised I was WL'd too. Carolina grad with a 158 and a 3.2. (Though maybe my MA and work experience pushed me from the realm of straight up rejection.)

are they just waitlisting everyone so they can buy more time in admissions? and in doing so making individuals weed themselves out so they don't have to do it?

So I sent in my app in Dec and am still waiting on a decision. My stats are pretty good for getting in except I'm not in-state. does everyone think the last part of this cycle is just going to be all denials?

I really think they are waiting for that April 16th seat deposit. They can't afford to have too big of a class, especially considering their less than awesome employment statistics. They probably admitted something like 300 or 400 kids and are going fill their class based off of new admits/waitlists after they see how many seats they have left. The problem (well, not a bad thing) is that it is so cheap that the price could mean a particularly high yield in this economy.
Also, UNC is usually one of the top 10 most selective schools. I don't know why this is, but it is.

As I'm sure you know it's all random. I went complete mid december and heard back early february and my stats are not auto-admit by any means. I was lucky enough to be hit when they threw the dart...
edit: not totally random, but you get the point.

Thanks, man. Good luck to you.
Before I forget, here's a piece of intel I can pass along: I called the admissions office, and from what I was told, apparently they are going to wait until after the deposit deadline passes before making additional merit scholarship offers.
Take it with a grain of salt, as we all know that admissions offices like to sing and dance ... but that's what I was told.

Notre Dame, Illinois, and Pitt are the front runners. Leaning towards Notre Dame for best overall fit, but the money that Pitt is offering is very attractive; and Illinois wouldn't be a shabby alternative either.
I'd love SMU to be an option, too, but they have maintained radio silence since forever.

Really? Not that I'm disagreeing with you, I've just never heard this before. When I think top 10 most selective, I think, you know...Yale or something. And I love UNC Law, but it's no Yale.

Yale is #1 most selective, but that leaves 9 spots behind it. UNC is legit in the top-10 most selective--admission percentage is usually around 12-15%. Compare that to most schools which are above 30%

Just heard the same thing from a "higher-up" at the school. It seems that they are telling the truth. Looking less and less like UNC will stay in the running for me either.

I'm a 174, 2.76 in state and have received no reply at all. I'm visiting tomorrow and maybe I'll have more information then, but since I have to decide on whether or not to put a seat deposit down at Wake Forest by the 15th, I'm starting to ge ta bit nervous.

Friend of mine is a 2L at Wake, and he got in at both UNC and Wake, and was a UNC undergrad, and has loved UNC his whole life, but went to Wake specifically because of things like their admissions process/staff.

I took a tour at Wake today. There are a lot of good things I liked about the school. Funny thing is, the guy who gave the tour was an undergrad at UNC as well. I can't remember if he's 2L or 3L. He was a very cool guy, and broke down a lot of the realities of law school.

Realities of law school, you say? Care to share?!

Sounds like everyone who visits really likes Wake. I can't recall really hearing anything negative, other than the facilities not exactly being to die for.
