Also, the law school is scheduled to be the second building at Carolina North. The Innovation Center will be the first.
And you seem to be confusing North Campus with Carolina North. Carolina North will be 2 miles north of Franklin Street, which is the current northern boundary of campus, on MLK/Historic Airport Road and a solid three miles from the existing law school building. I would not say that it is particularly close to Franklin Street or the rest of campus.[/quote]
No definitely not close to campus at all.

Re: University of North Carolina 2013
It's more than double that distance. The Old Well to the hospital is 3/4 a mile if you follow the main roads and don't cut across campus, i.e. take the long route. And while there are some hills on the main campus, you don't have anything like the MLK/Historic Airport Road hills on either side of Bolin Creek. Nor do you have any part of campus that deals with that kind of traffic, either.ntzsch wrote: Carolina North? (if not, disregard)
Not very far at all, I would say. Not that much farther than the old well to the hospital. 5-10 minute bike ride. (althogh the hill is crucial)
All I know is that as a law student the campus services I use most frequently -- that aren't in the law school itself -- are the gyms, Student Stores, Lenoir dining hall and the Student Union. None of those are going to be remotely convenient for people at Carolina North.

since it sounds like we won't be getting the new building anyways, no real worries!

Really? This is so sad! UNC is a top choice of mine and now I feel like I am not even competitive with a 3.6 164 because I am OOS. The median LSAT and GPA is like 161 3.6, right? Is it really THAT more competitive for OOS?gymboree wrote:outside chance...klussy wrote:would a 3.5 165 out of state have a shot here?

Typical distribution for UNC is 75% in-state, 25% out-of-state.traehekat wrote:Really? This is so sad! I am out of state as well with a 3.8/166. I am actually really interested as well because I have been in greensboro for the last 4 years. It pisses me off that even though I have rented here for the past three years I am still considered OOS.

Yeah I mean, I'm aware of the distribution, so I assumed the OOS medians were a tad higher, but I figured it was around 163/164. I was confident my numbers would be relatively competitive, now I am worried.roguetester wrote:Typical distribution for UNC is 75% in-state, 25% out-of-state.traehekat wrote:Really? This is so sad! That really does suck! Speaking of which, what DOES one have to do to establish residency in NC? Is it typically more difficult compared to other states? Obviously UNC residents benefit from a great price on in-state tuition, and it would be great to be able to establish residency after a year (although apparently its not that easy).statuscheckerssuck wrote:I am out of state as well with a 3.8/166. From what I can tell you have to have been a resident for a year, but they have all these other weird things that they want to know about. Essentially because I am still partially being supported by my parents health/car insurance etc., I do not qualify, despite renting for over three years and being a registered NC voter.

Yes, you definitely need to do things like register your car and pay your taxes in NC. Apparently they are really crazy about that.statuscheckerssuck wrote:From what I can tell you have to have been a resident for a year, but they have all these other weird things that they want to know about. Also, I really don't think they have a specifically different set of numbers that they look for in OOS applicants. I asked someone in admissions about this at the LSAC forum and they were adamant that the standards are the same. The reason it's so much tougher OOS is that there are just so many more applicants.
I'm sure averages are different between groups when all is said and done, but I don't think they look for anything specifically different just because you're OOS.
