Just got my first 170+ and it feels pretty damn awesome. Got a 173 on PT53. My last diagnostic was a 162 before I started Testmasters, and got a 164 on the real thing back in February. I guess Testmasters is really helping. Like much more than I realized. Woot.

My breakdown was:
LR: -2
LG: -0
LR: -0
RC: -6 (ouch, but these passages were so damn boring)

I almost wanna take another PT right now haha..

This thread is definitely for me...I got 161 in June with crap for prep, so I'm trying to invest a lot more time/effort now to do better in September. My goal was to get above 165 (I had read too many horror stories about how impossible it is to improve on the LSAT). I got 162 on a cold PT (which tells you how much prep I did for the real thing), then worked through half of a Princeton Review book this week, and yesterday I scored 170 on PT 50. Hooooly. I almost cried when I saw it, hahaha.

Now, I know a 170 PT means I would expect a few points lower on the real thing, but that's after one week of prep with 7 to go. So my hope is that I can get my PTs up to 173ish so I can hope for a 170 on the test itself. I wasn't even going to aim that high, but now I know it's possible.

Weee! Good luck to everybody else in this boat! :)

PS: Not that I really want to have my bubble burst, but since I am not too well-versed...is PT 50 famous for being easier or something? As in, should I not rely on my sudden high score on it? :|

Good job homes! Don't take another PT odds are you won't do as well as you want, but you can work on an RC section maybe

Well I did Prep Test 34 today for my first practice test since June 09. I scored a 164 after a MISERABLE, I mean fucking MISERABLE game section. Minus 10, are you serious? Ugh. I'm not sure why I did so poorly (i'm going to go re-work them later today) but they felt rather difficult to me. It took me 15 minutes to do the first game :(

Alright, it's close to crunchtime. Right now I'm not doing as well as I would like to, but I'm going to commit myself to one more month of intensive study, cut my losses and go in to this September thing as prepared as I can be. Hopefully this last wave of studying will yield some good results. At this point, I'll be happy with a 165+

Best to everyone else, we're almost done!

Uh oh I'm taking PT34 tonight .. I'll let you know how it goes! A 164 even with that rough of a games section is pretty good! Don't be too upset at least your LR and RC must have been stellar!

I also got owned by the games on PT34 as well...only a -4 but I went like 10 mins over....1st game was brutal

Yeah, I looked at the first game and said to myself "oh sweet, a basic ordering game." I was wrong. I'll go over them tonight slowly and see what I missed.

Add another one to the thread.

First cold diag: 158

First test after some studying: 163

Test I took last week: 166 :?

LR is still kicking my ass (-10ish+ between the 2 sections) and my reading comp can swing anywhere from -2 to -8...

Yet another upper 160s test today.

PT 35:

LR1: -4 22/26 (33 mins)
LG1: -1 21/22 (35 mins) -- experimental section from PT 44 (too bad this wasn't my real one)
RC: -2 24/26 (35 mins)
LG2: -4 19/23 (35 mins) -- I spent almost 15 minutes on the first game I tried, so all things considered, pretty damn good.
LR2: -4 22/26 (34 mins)

Raw: 87
LSAT: 168

This one kind of pisses me off. When I looked at the scale, I realized I only needed one more point for a 169, and two more points for a 170. In September if I score 2 points lower than the cutoff for a 170 I might punch a baby.

Well I went over the Logic Game section that I fail-boated on and it looks like the first game just "spooked" me a bit. I only missed one, but since it took me 15 minutes, I rushed the last 3 which cost me. I completely misread the conditional statements on the last game which in turned owned me. I went back and did the games with ease later in the afternoon. All in all I'm happy with a 164 with 1 week of studying since June. Time to review the LG chapters I've gone over and do 1 chapter of the LR bible tomorrow. I think i'll wait to do the RC bible as I only missed 3 on this test (ergh). Anyone wanna pick which test I should do on Wednesday for me?? (35-55).

Keep kicking ass everyone!

Haha, +3 ... except the first baby I'll probably see will be my niece and I would feel bad punching her, let's hope for her sake that I kick some September LSAT ass!!

PT 45

LR1: -6
RC: -4
LG: -1 (dumb mistake)
LR2: -4

Scaled: 167 :)

Last PT was a 158. I felt confident going into this exam. Jumped around on RC, finished LG in 28 minutes, and was ready for another PT right after the 4th section. Reducing my study load from 3 to 2 PT's a week allows me to get more out of each PT and I don't have to worry about burnout! Looking forward to reviewing!

And what's the deal with this talk about punching babies?? You people are sick :D

After a 167 hiccup last Friday (June 2007 PT), I brought it back today on PT 53 with a 172 (Raw: 93...generous curve).

I'm pissed at myself for -5 RC. So stupid. I hate the passages in the newer tests -- they seem harder to me, and I pretty much ALWAYS end up running out of time or rushing. My RC time has flat-out not improved at all the whole time I've been practicing LSAT's. I don't know what to do to increase my speed. I tried more of a "skimming" approach last week (instead of reading for details) and it totally didn't work...I missed so many important elements and ended up having to essentially go back and read for details regardless.

Any advice for RC speed? If I could just read the passages a little faster, I think I could do much better!

That's funny. I took this a couple days ago and did much better in LR2 than LR1.

Also, I was a little confused on one of the rules in LG - "Nation X exports S if, but only if, nation Y does also." Is this the same as "if and only if," which would be a double not arrow?

What was your last PT out of curiosity? My last one was 44 and I found it WAY easier than 45. If it was 44 and you scored much lower than 45, then I think you and I have completely different thinking processes.

Yes it's the same thing as 'If and only if'

Yes, last PT was 44. I think burnout might have contributed a little to the low score. But I did find RC to be a killer on that one. Worse I have ever done.

Ok, that's really weird. I found the RC pretty damn easy in 44 and much harder in 45.

And thanks for clearing up that LG rule for.

I had a shitty study session tonight. I went over the LR section I did in my PT on Sat. and not only did I get only 1 of the 5 I missed correctly the second time but I actually missed 2 more that I got right during the test! Arrrrrgh!

I then did a one-start hybrid game in the Kaplan Mastery book and proceeded to take 11:23 to complete it! Granted, it was 7 questions and I got them all correct but still, 11:23! Arrrrrgh!

I also worked 11 hours and am getting nervous about getting my apps done by the end of Sept. I think I need a run or something!

EDIT: I just went for a 30 minute run and feel like I could get a 170 right now! I love exercise!

FML.

re-took PT 36, which i orginally took as a free kaplan prep test in february, scoring 163.

score tonight: 163.

the only silver lining to this is that i've been studying LR and doing drills and have improved slightly on those sets-- but i lost my footing on the RC and LG sections.

at first take
LR -13 (mostly inference q's)
RC -2
LG -6

at second take
LR -11 (mostly necessary assumptions)
RC -3
LG -8

my LR bible is coming on Wednesday-- I'd love to get those numbers down to 1-2; but now I'm freaking out about games...and I don't know if 7 weeks is going to cut it...

h-e-l-p m-e.

Alright, PT #34 done .. and everyone was right those games were brutal, I didn't finish which is why my games section was probably one of my worst ever. BUT I still managed to get my highest score to date which made me feel decent about the whole thing (I had been hovering in the 165-167 range).

RC: -2
LR: -4
LR: -3
LG: -7

Raw: +85
Scaled: 168

Edited to add: Are the curves getting harder?! For most of the tests in The Next 10 Actual ... (tests 29-38) +90 will give you about a 172, on the newer tests +90 seems to be the min for breaking 170.
