Try Amazon or buy.com-- they may be able to get it to you faster

Took Sept 2006, PT 50 today

I decided to take a different approach and allow myself up to 5 more minutes per section.

Section 1: RC -1 (5 extra minutes - thank you riddled basins of attraction)
I really didn't want to do RC as my first section today so after I did the first passage I scanned the others to find the science one because on my lsat PT I had a bit of trouble on it so I decided to do the 4th passage 2nd because I could spend more time on it)
Section 2: LR -2 (2 extra minutes)
Section 3: LG -1 (1 extra minute)
Section 4: LR -1 (2 extra minutes)

Although the end of the LRB really helped clear things up for me, I still need LR practice because on 5-10/50 questions today I wasn't sure about my answer even with the extra time.

Still my 95/100 - 176 is the highest score I have gotten yet and it makes me feel confident that if I keep practicing LR and can bump up my speed a little I can replicate this score within 35 minutes on 9/26!!

What's the reasoning behind allowing yourself extra time?

Beats me. Might as well allow yourself to take a peak at the answers.. :D

I thought I wrote a post earlier about this but maybe I didn't.
I have been trying to improve LR and basically wanted to see if my accuracy was improving (especially in LR but also overall). I wanted to know if it was a time issue or if I wasn't thinking correctly about the stimuli etc.
Now I know it is mostly a time issue so I will do a few days of LR practice sections (35 min ones and some 40 min ones if needed)
And then try to basically decrease the time to 39 mins, then 38..37..36..35...34..33 so that I can become faster and allow some extra time for test day anxiety/tiredness.

Ahh, sorry if you posted that before, I didn't see it ... I think for me the LR I miss I'll miss whether I have 40 mins or 35, they're mostly ones I narrow down to 2 answers and choose the wrong one. I need to spend some quality time with my LR Bible.

Yeah had I done it without the LRB, 40 minutes or 50 wouldn't matter because I wouldn't have the tools to confirm what makes a correct answer. (I still don't have as good of a grasp on this as I should but time with practice sections should change that).

Good luck!

Well, I actually feel pretty solid/confident about LG's now. I have gone back and started doing older LG sections from the years I think were the hard ones - did June 2000 last night, finished 3-4 minutes early, only -1 due to a reading error. I already feel very comfortable with LR, and think I have turned the corner on RC. I am setting my goal at 180. So far last 2 PT's were 175's. Goodness, all previous times I took the LSAT LG's were like the diaster that wrecked me - and I had 2 sections each time. Will be great if I'm feeling this comfortable going in, and even better if it's on test day...

We are basically on par with each other right now. My diagnostic was a 149 (been out of school for 4 years) and my last two PTs have been in the low 160s. While a 170 would be great, if i can get my scores to the upper 160s, i will be ecstatic. let me know how you are progressing.

That's pretty much me as well. Only difference: 3 years out of school.

Thought I'd share my good news... finally cracked 170 on PT 45!

I am trying to give folks some encouragement.

Crazy thing is I thought I sucked at it. WHY do I sometimes feel the inverse of my true performance? On Saturday I took PT44, and got 166/167, today I got a 176/177

(why the slash? I had a proctor who cut time early, so I gave myself a minute or so to check something... today I went over the time limit by a few seconds, so to be totally accurate it should be the lower score :x )

What does concern me is that today felt BAD until I scored it. And how can I vary about 10 points on back-to-back LSATS? That has me freaked out over my real performance in the future. Sucks to think about it. I'm assuming the SAT, and other tests would not show as much variance.

I would put that 176 under my pillow and sleep very, very good.

What PT did you score the 166/167 on?

I mentioned it above, it was PT44. Then did much better on PT45. Felt like I did great on 44, and did not so great (relatively speaking) then felt like I bombed 45 and did my best yet. :?

I'll chime in...

PT 47 today:

LR1: -5
RC: -11 (or as I call it, Reading In-comprehension)
LG: -0
LR2: -2

Raw=82, Scaled=163

Hmm, what should I work on? I've been stuck at this point for awhile...

Here are my prep test scores in the order I've taken them:

Code: Select all

PT Date Score CR CR2 LG RC Total
10 Feb-94 Timed 163 -4 -6 -7 -5 -22
11 Jun-94 Timed 164 -4 -7 -5 -2 -18
12 Oct-94 Timed 161 -4 -4 -9 -7 -24
36 Dec-01 Timed 160 -8 -6 -10 -1 -25
32 Oct-00 Timed 162 -8 -2 -8 -6 -24

On average: 162 -5.6 -5.0 -7.8 -4.2 -22.6

On every test, I'm running out of time on LG, having to completely guess on one of the puzzles. On the LG puzzles that I don't guess on, I usually get -0 to -2.

My CR needs help too. I have time to complete them both but I'm usually missing the details or crossing out the right answer too quickly.

RC is a crapshoot even though I feel best about that section.

At this rate, I'm just hoping to get over 165. That would get me some money wherever I'm going.

I would stop doing PTs so often and focus on LGs. Do a bunch of the games -photocopied per pithypikes suggestion, or otherwise - and try working on different section-types back to back. Maybe that will help you get a better feel for them

hello my fellow 170 hopefuls!

boy I'm getting nervous!

my PTs have been as follows:

May: 152, 155, 162, 166, 162
June LSAT: 164
July: no PTs...what was I thinking?!
August: 163, 167

I reallllly need to score a 170+ for my retake to look good....I want to take about 10-12 more PTs...any suggestions for how to use these to significantly raise my scores?

Thanks!

You could try narrowing down to which types of questions you miss and do more of those.
For example, not just assumption questions or something like that but really looking at why you missed them (did you not make the connection between percentages and numbers .. or do you sometimes not know how to diagram certain statements like "only/only if")
The biggest help for me was going back to LR sections I had done and reviewing not just the questions I got wrong but the ones I got right as well because it helped me know why an answer was correct and how to go about thinking about the stimuli.
Also, review the LRB or buy it if you haven't.

Good luck.

Took PT 41 this morning.
Raw 81
Scaled 163.

The good:
I finished every section with 5+ minutes remaining (9 minutes left on RC).
I felt that the LR was extremely difficult, yet I only missed 7 for both sections.
It helped me re-realize a huge weakness I have in my LG section. I need to start doing spatial grouping games asap.
I was extremely tired yet I still scored well.
This is the 5th test ive taken that I've scored above 80 raw on. Woo!

The bad:
I missed 10 questions on my LG section. 7 of which were all from the stupid fucking picnic game that I couldn't setup.
Little mistakes are killing me. I literally should have gotten -0 on all sections besides LG but i either read too fast or had it narrowed down to 2 and made the incorrect choice. However, i'm averaging -3/-4 on LR/RC so I'm happy.

Conclusion: I'm going to start my logic game self-beatdown tonight. I will do at least 2 timed LG sections every day on top of my typical practice. I feel extremely good about RC/LR now which is great. Starting this weekend I will begin doing 5 section prep tests. Im not worried at all about it, but rather I'm kind of excited. I don't feel fatigued during tests and I get more practice this way. My goal for 85 raw score is near my friends, very near.

I hope every ones week is going well!
