Well, I am wired (6 hr energy jolt shot at 10am). I just took a PT and my accuracy was much improved, though I still need to increase my speed (ironically). I'm used to having caffeine, but I think this made me really fixated on getting the right answers, at the expense of moving on and saving time. I'll still down one tomorrow, though, and just be more wary of the clock.

Seriously, don't use this on test day if you are not used to these shots...and even if you are used to these shots, be wary. I took these shots while studying and doing my preptests (had been taking them for about a month of studying) and they never really had much effect on me--at least I didn't think so. On Sat, however, I downed a bottle during the break (that's the time when I start to experience burn out) and I was completely cracked out for the last 2 sections and the writing sample. I was so jittery that it was ridiculous...I think my adreneline + this was just no good. I should have only taken half. Damn it.

5 Hour Energy=Every other energy drink on the market. I love how their advertising and hype has people thinking it's some kind of adderall replacement that requires input from others as to its harmful side-effects/efficacy.

i think its effect is different for some people, as i took it december and it worked great for me. I usually have a problem with fatigue, and took a half before the test and a sip or two during the break and i felt like i could do another section.

I'm not saying it doesn't work...red bull works, monster works, a double shot of espresso works. My point is that it's an over-the-counter energy drink just like a million others.

PS--does anyone remember the energy drink called "Pimp Juice"? That shit was good.

ETA----O shit, they still make it.

Well, I did drink my 6 hour energy on Saturday, and didn't notice any pronounced effect-- not wired, not tired. My performance speed increased a bit (but adrenaline and it being a retake probably contributed... I didn't stare at the proctor like, "are you serious?" when he said "begin") but mostly, I was more focused, just like during Friday's test-run. I know this because I can remember and visualize a lot from the test, whereas the first time around I couldn't. Would I take it again? Absolutely!

I am most "peppy" and awake around 8:30 in the a.m. after I've had my morning cup of coffee and before my usual stresses kick in. Unfortunatley (as most of you know), the June lsat is administered at 12:30 - literally my weakest time of day. My cup of coffee has worn off and I'm less calm and focused. I purchased a few 5 Hour Energys to try this week to see how I do - if I like it I'd like to save some for the break to take in with me and take. I saw a few posts on this thread that indicate some of you brought some in to the test center (I assume in your plastic zip loc baggy). Will this count for the beverage and can I still bring in a water or is either/or but not both?

Ok, I have to weigh in on this because I think this shit tripped me up on the original LSAT. You won't need it!! Seriously! Unless you have an adrenaline deficiency your heart will be pumping and racing while taking the real thing, this shit will only mess with you and get you HYPER, meaning you will think too much, probably second guess yourself, etc. That is EXACTLY what happened to me the day of the real test my list go-around. 1/2 a RedBull or an energy drink should do it for you if you really want the caffeine, etc. to give u a boost during the first section when you are building up your speed. 5 Hour will probably be a mistake.

Wow - thanks for weighing-in. I do like the way my mind thinks when I have coffee - I am actually more focused but I can also be easily scattered if I have too much coffee. I am planning to take a PT tomorrow so I will try half and see how it goes. My main concern is that I always seem to have a slump in brain power around noon (right when I will be taking the test) so I want to do something to counteract that.

Thx - and I already take 20 MG Adderall XR. I'm still looking for a boost - the adderall just elevates me to "normal operation"

I used one for every PT and one at the beginning and one on the break on test day. I drink sick amounts of caffeine normally though.

Anyone remember these???

I drank one when I was 12 and played (what I thought was) the craziest game of racketball ever.

First time I took the LSAT I didn't drink any kind of energy stuff and felt sleepy and tired during some of the sections (probably due to September being so early in the morning), so now I'm thinking about downing one of these things before the exam and maybe another one over the break or maybe 1/2 before 1/2 over the break.

Tried it for a PT, it seemed to give me energy and I felt pretty good although I didn't do too well on the test. Now that I think about it I don't know if it was me being full of energy or just plain jittery. I might experiment with it one more time before Monday.

I took a 5 hr energy duing the Sept 2009 LSAT and it was great. I took half before and half at break. I used it during a practice test about a week before and then for the second time on test day. I totally felt terrific.
Since then I've taken it very often because I work night shift. It is all Vitamin B, with a little caffine and just a touch of sugar.
It beats coffee or soda because you won't have to run to the bathroom during break, or worse have to leave during the test. Definately test it out once or twice before the test. You don't want to get all jittery on test day. Test day is not the day you want to experiment with something new. Even if you use it all week this week it should still be good. It is not addictive like caffine and I haven't built up a tolorance for it even though I use it a lot.
The other thing that might be good is large doses of Vit C. Don't get pills or chewables. Get Vit C powder. Mix about 2000% RDA with a little orange juice. It will be bitter but not too bad. You absolutely have to try this a few times before test day, though. It will almost certainly mess with your stomach the first time you take it.

Hmmm . . . since my previous post questioning if I should use 5 hour energy I have used it twice, and even tried the red bull shots - they put me to sleep and make me drowsey!!! Am I backwards or what? Maybe it somehow reacts with my prescribed adderrall? Like my body is saying "oh no hyperactivity! Shut it down!" I don't get it. Darn it - I need to be up and peppy!

It's been said, but it can't be emphasized enough to try something before doing it on test day.

I pt'd on adderall today and finished 2 and a half logic games with mistakes on a question here and there (on my last PT, I finished 4 with a -1). I'm gonna leave the task to adrenaline come test day.

I know it is a little late at this point but diet and exercise helps. Even if you quit drinking, smoking and eating junk for a few weeks you'll feel better. Run a few miles each day, with a light jog on test day and you'll feel great.

Damn it. People are stacking amphetamines with modafinil and God knows what memory-enhancing dementia drugs for the test, and here I am, thinking of whether to take some nicotine gum or just stick to coffee.

I totally agree with you - plus I find it such a great stress reliever. I think I may be retaking in October, so I think I'll add such a regimen to my study plan. Thanks!

I don't condone anyone taking drugs they do not need. When I tell people I take adderrall their first response is "awesome I bet you could study for days." Um, no. Because it is needed for me to function up to what a "normal" person would be able to, I never have any effects like that. Now, without it, and I'm like that guy from "50 First Dates" re-introducing himself ever 2 seconds! Seriously - total scatterbrain without it.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
