First practice lsat score v.s final score
I would be very appreciative if all of you would be willing to post what you scored on your first practice lsat; and then what your scored on the actual test. I am very curious as to what average increase can be expected. Also, please indicate how you studied. I scored a 151 on my first practice lsat and have recently purchased twenty tutoring hours, so I am very curious as to what I may score in June.

I scored the exact same, 171-171. There is a qualification though. I didn't limit myself for time on the first practice test. I took about 10 with no time limit, and I can't tell you how much that helped me. I got faster and faster each time, so when I finally added the time constraint it was no big deal.
I think it's a good predictor, too because practice can't really make you understand logic better (maybe on the games), but it can make you faster. If you practice enough, time shouldn't be an issue, but your general capacity to understand will remain unchanged. Least that's my theory.

when I started studying: 161
last practice 170 (though I was ranging between around 167-171 for the last few tests I took.)
actual lsat: 163, I still have no idea what happened, my only exuse is that it was really cold (like I was shaking with my coat on) in the testing room and it messed with me a little, but really not nearly enough for that much of a drop.

It depends on if you mean first real one or not. The first ones I took were from a book by ARCO, and in retrospect, I have the feeling the tests they write suck. My first one was somewhere in the high 150s. As far as real tests, which I started taking after using ARCO for a few days and getting familiar with the question types, my first was 172, and I got a 177 on the real thing.

well.. i started out fine.. worked my way up to a 179 on my last practice... then on test day some guy pointed his finger in my face, i flipped out, stabbed a proctor with a mechanical pencil, defecated on my answer sheet and had to be restrained by two large men who promptly expelled me from the testing center... lucky for me the defecation actually filled in one correct answer

These posts are really helping me develop a clearer picture of the lsat progression process. I really like to see when people significantly pull up their scores. I am very interested to see more posts; also if anyone can let me know how long it takes to receive your scores after the test I would appreciate it.

164-->176. studied with kaplan. a billion dollar prep course is not for everyone, though. it helped me because it forced me to study. i am i saying that i paid $1,000 for someone to give me some books and kick me in the @$$? yes i am. i mostly did timed sections for practice and only took a few full length tests. it seemed to help a lot.

I'm sure this has been said numerous times but it bears repeating -
An untimed test is not an indicator of your timed test abilities
A lot of the test is testing your ability to reason QUICKLY and figure out shortcuts. Got a 164 on my first timed one, then went and took a practice test and gave myself all the time I needed on games (I don't seem to have any time problems with the other sections) and got a 175 (yes, I am that bad and slow at games).
So for the purposes of validity within this discussion, please list your initial timed score and your actual score, just to make sure we aren't comparing apples to oranges.
