Bombed June Exam
So, I took the June '17 test and I bombed it (163) relative to my PT average. I was averaging 170 on my PT's very consistently (168 lowest 172 highest). I also took all of the PT's under real test conditions: 5 sections, no extra time, no breaks between except for a 15 min on after sec. 3, used analog watch, the whole shebang. I felt fine on test day. I was a little nervous for the first section, but that was the experimental anyway. I did BR of the exam and only missed 3 total questions ( -1 RC, -0 LG, -1 LR1, -1 LR2). My question is where did I go wrong, and what can I fix heading into the Sept. exam?

Just wanted to let you know the same exact thing happened to me. Looking forward to seeing any advice here as well.bleedingcard wrote:So, I took the June '17 test and I bombed it (163) relative to my PT average. Speaking as someone who advises and doesn't really know anything more than what you've posted here it's pretty difficult to say. BR as a methodology is a good learning tool but really isn't relevant wrt actual test day performance beyond a past confirmation of gained knowledge. Where it is helpful is finding patterns of questions you miss under the time gun and learning how to get those questions right under time. What did you miss? Why did you miss it?
If you were consistently PTing168-172 (without BR) then just chalk it up as a slightly abnormal range error and keep firing for September. Have you taken all the PTs from 35-present? If not you've got plenty of material to work with.

Re: Bombed June Exam
I am starting to feel the same way about this now. I was in shock yesterday, but now I see it as an opportunity to use 10 more weeks to really hammer everything in and maybe even break out of that plateau I hit around 170. The good news is I still have about the 12 most recent tests as fresh tests to practice with, and I'll be going back through and really using all the earlier PT's to really drill and dig into the questions a whole lot more. Onto the next one!zkyggi wrote:I also performed much lower than my average (9 points below), and I am finding comfort in the fact that this J2017 was literally my worst performance on the LSAT. If it happens in September, I will be worried that this is a troubling trend. One thing I did notice about taking it for the first time was that it isn't anything really new. Going into it again in September, I think this will be a powerful thing to remember and draw confidence from.

Thank you for this! I'm going to just chalk it up as anomaly. It's just a bit stressful to have to really nail September now when I was planning on having at least a score that would get me into my safety schools. The good news is that there is 10 more weeks to get even better!AJordan wrote:Speaking as someone who advises and doesn't really know anything more than what you've posted here it's pretty difficult to say. Re: Bombed June Exam
I hit 5 points under my average. I am retaking as well. I am just going to pick things back up on Monday and see how it goes. I hit a 168-170 plateau before the test, hopefully I can break through that into the 172+ in 10 weeks as well. I was in panic mode yesterday, now I am content with knowing that I am capable, it is just a matter of execution.
Keep identifying weaknesses and work at them. That is going to be the key. Really hammer home LR since that was a weak point. RC/LR needs to improve for me. Specifically RC. So I will be hitting that hard!

I mean if you've got most of the late 60s/70s to still work through, that could very much be part of it - the LR questions since 65 or so feel much trickier than early LR questions, and RC passages have gotten a bit harder (in my opinion) since the early 70s.bleedingcard wrote:I am starting to feel the same way about this now.
