+1 this is exactly how I feel about it. Although I would give thought to retaking a 172 since I'm a splitter.

Ditto. In a way I will hate to get a 172. It's right between "I'm okay with this" and "NOPE, let's retake."

I've been really hot and cold about applying to UGA. I'm kinda worried that if they offered me enough $$$ I'd end up staying here regardless of where else I get in because it's convenient. I wouldn't have to move again, I would only be an hour away from my family, COL is super cheap.

I turned down my t30 undergrad with a full+stipend and I currently have 0 regrets about doing that. Don't settle, you'll always wonder "what if "

Yeah, I know this guy who turned down Cornell and went to Georgia (I think he graduated this year from law school or is going to be a 3L). I'm thinking about asking him if he'd do it again. I can't imagine NOT having regrets.

I'm super debt averse, though, so it makes it really hard for me to decide what I would do. I'm coming out of undergrad with about 5k of debt though so I guess I should have know at SOME point I would have to go into actual debt to get my education

Im curious if the majority of you want to become lawyers because you believe you will enjoy the work or that you seek the pay/prestige and do not know what else to do. I ask because most of my cohort are of the finance breed and I swear they despise law so much because they believe it is boring, and can't imagine why I would want to become a lawyer. It's as if to the finance community that law and medicine has gone completely out of vogue. I think future attorneys are just intellectually interested in the type of work they will one day be doing, and that is incomprehensible to the type A personalities that finance and MBA types are interested in doing.

For me the former. I enjoyed IB but couldn't envision myself doing it for 10 years. Your friends may find it incomprehensible if they're doing M&A and are dead set on going to the buy side in general simply because their earning potential is pretty high. A first year associate can earn over 200k in bulge brackets, and a good junior analyst in big hedge funds can earn over 250k. That said, many finance people burn out pretty quickly, and most of my friends just see IB as a stepping stone to whatever they want to do next.

As for law, I can't deny that a JD from T13 equates to pay/prestige, but I want to do it because I genuinely believe I will enjoy the work.

You're not the scrub. Anything above a 138 (cooley's 25th) for me would make me not retake.

Geographically, pretty sure the closest law school to me is Grundy. My incoming 141 should be good for there, right?

I'm curious the type of ugpa we're talking about when we talk about splitters. My ugpa was a 3.67. I know that's closer to the 25th percentile for some of the t14- does that mean I'm technically a splitter?

Law is by far the most viable career option I have (assuming I graduate at a T20 or higher school). My other two realistic career options are in politics and IT. The former at the entry level requires more hours and is less stable than big law, plus it pays much less, both initially and farther down the road. IT I have done at the entry level for about a year and I could not stand this being my career, its miserable and with my qualifications (or lack thereof) my earning potential is severely limited.

I have an offer in IT that I could take upon graduation, and could probably get a job in politics relatively easily, but I will be going to law school instead. Plan is to work in big law for a few years then lateral to mid law/in house counsel and then maybe get into politics down the road (but not at the entry level),

Strange question I wonder if the answer might be yes to given TLS's target demo:
Is anyone else here a CTY summer camp alum?

I think whether one is a splitter or not can change from school to school. My GPA is below median at UVA, so if I score high enough on my LSAT I guess you could consider me a splitter there. On the other hand, I am above median at Duke and at the 75th for Cornell so I wouldn't be a splitter there (although I could be a reverse splitter if I bombed the LSAT...).

Yeah splitter is school dependent but it usually refers to
<25 gpa and >75 lsat for the school you looking at. It I think it's really intended for people way below 75ths like sub 3.5
