I know you guys want to be aware of this and the thread seems easy to miss.
Sorry if you've seen it already.
Also, grad school loan repayment is going to 12.5% for 30 years.

You seem to be well versed in this world, way more than I am so if you don't mind I have the hypotheticals of hypothetical.

Holding CoL in this instance (because in everyone aside from NYC is covered) Stanford is #1 for me, it is a long shot but still roll with me on this. In light of the new loan plan, lets say I got accepted into Stanford with their median (30g for 3 years) grant as well as UVA with 135g; which would you pick if your goal was clerkship then boutique lit?

That's tough but I'm big on minimizing debt. If Stanford is your dream school, I wouldn't say you can't go. The only clear decision to me is that a major named scholarship (Ruby, etc.) would be foolish to turn down for massive debt at Harvard.
Wait and see where you get in.

I should probably start looking into the implications of not being eligible for federal loans, eh?

I definitely defer to Npret on this, but I think S would be worth it over MVP if the difference was only 45g. It seems like your odds of getting median/bottom 25th pwned or striking out at S would be a fair bit lower, especially if the market crashes again. If you go PI and PSLF gets cut, S's LRAP is independent of the government. Goals that are more obtainable from S / non-standard Biglaw would be an additional point in S's favor.

TCR is usually take the money but, like, there's a big difference between HYS vs MVD with a difference of <50k and a 250k difference between H and Chicago.

This is what I was trying to say but I thought the difference was much larger. Is OP getting 90K or 30k? I read it as 30k total. I don't know what Stanfords median grant is.

And yes, definitely.

I'm perfectly fine with you applying in a different cycle than me.

I'll be applying in 2030.

I thought he meant 30k a year, so 90k?

I think the difference is only 30g for all 3 years opposed to 130g for all 3 at UVA. Sorry for the confusion, S seems to shell out 100g scholarships to 4.0/177+s

Npret- Thanks for the input, I'm fortunate enough to have CoL covered and a little bit of tuition but would be looking at well over 6 figures at S. I don't think I'll have to worry about a Ruby, hell S is a pipe dream as it is.

Isn't PSLF getting destroyed now?

The problem with PSLF is that it seems uncertain at the moment. Standford has a good LRAP but I thought you want a clerkship plus litigation?

Wait and see where you get accepted and the total debt.

Edit to add: The Trump proposal is to end public service loan forgiveness.

Yeah, that is why Columbia (with their current LRAP system) is my top school as a PI gunner. The option to do fully-endowed straight am or IBR (with an insanely high income threshold) is so underrated

If PSLF gets capped or (god forbid) dismantled, do you think non-HYS+C T14 would transition to straight am LRAPs or just leave their current students and recent PI grads out to dry?

I get the feeling that many of them may not be in a position to afford to amortize the debt of current PI gunners and/or that of PSLF-hopefuls whose debt has been accumulating since graduation. What an awful situation that would be.

People asked about this at ASW and they said something independent would definitely be implemented. Don't recall the specific schools and obviously that should be taken with a grain of salt.
