Neurotic much?

I was too -- I tested out five different kinds of pencils. I found the black finish to be preferable because it minimized visual distraction and looked very fast. Among black finished pencils (my final two -- and I used both on the test) were the Dixon Ticonderoga #2 and the Mirado Black Warrior -- I much prefer the matte finish of the Mirado (again for lack of visual distractions), but I favored the green and yellow band of the Ticonderoga as well as the sexy gray eraser. The Mirado is made in the USA whereas the Ticonderoga is made in China -- this does not make one lick of difference in the quality, but I do like to shop local.

In the end, I would have loved a hybrid of these two pencils, but ultimately, my best work was done with the Ticonderoga. There is a depth of color to the graphite as well as a sharpness in application that stood out. That said, my best advice is to get both and switch it up when you're feeling the need. Keeping it fresh might be the difference between lifelong success and happiness or a life of TTT failure.

Good luck!

No, No, No! Nobody is screwed. Butch up, go to Office Max, and buy some real pencils.

not a fan of the black warrior (quality build, but I find circular pencils tough to grip).

one pencil not to use: eagle. they're terrible, they write very very light. if i found myself, in some nightmarish scenario, taking the lsat with a fistful of eagles i would just cancel and walk out.

Yeah this would be a good idea but the whole point of not having mechanical pencils is because of the clicking noise.

I'm pretty sure the whole point is that there are potential cheating devices that have attempted to be used in the past that look like mechanical pencils.

$1.99 for a pack of 10 at Wal-mart in black.
Pretty sexy.

^^^^^ these are what I will be using tomorrow

I almost bought these, but I couldn't figure out why they were black and any different from the regular yellow Ticonderogas. Then I told myself that it was too cool for me and probably for some other special purpose (drafting?). Then I feared that the blackness meant that the lead was extra black, which would make bubbles hard to erase. I spent about 5 minutes debating this. :-P

Now that I read this thread, I realize they're just regular, except black and cool-looking. Still too cool for me.

I had the same debate and ended up going with the regulars too. I figured, why mess with a good thing.

It is amazing how retarded and anal people get with the LSAT approaching. OP will look back on this thread in a month and realize how stupid this question was.

FWIW, I forgot to even bring a pencil and had to stop at Kroger to buy one on the way. Just get one with a good eraser and you're fine.

If OP hasn't realized it by now, hopefully he will before OCI this summer.

:D Excellent, thank you! I have really gotten on the Rocky Patel bandwagon. Met the guy 2 years ago in Vegas at "The Big Smoke" and have been in love ever since!!

This is, by far, the best topic on this site.

I've found that the best thing to do is to bubble in EVERY bubble at the start of the section, and then to mark the answer, you erase the other bubbles. Surprised no one else has thought of this.

You should probably check out the pencil thread as well if you're this concerned about the best pencil for bubbling.

I read somewhere, I forgot where, but some dude ran a series of tests using scantrons and a scantron machine to see how much you actually needed to bubble in to be registered. Basically, it doesn't have to be perfect. You can afford to have some streaks outside the bubble, and you can afford to have some areas within the oval lines not marked.

I tried to look for it, but unfortunately I forgot where I saw this post. In my quick search though, I did find a link for giving you an edge on Scantrons in regards to bubbling.

True story: I had been using these super cheap "Universal" pencils because I found a few lying around at work, but the lead broke easily and it did not sharpen well. I thought it may have been an issue with my sharpener.

Having not used a number 2 pencil in years, I had forgotten how big a difference the quality of the pencil makes. I decided to search the forums and stumbled upon this thread. As a result, I went out and bought some high quality Dixon Ticonderoga number 2 pencils (orignal, not black version), and to my delight the pencils sharpened much more consistently and the lead did not break as often.

In terms of what pencils bubble the quickest, I don't know. But I definitely recommend getting a pencil no cheaper than the Dixons. Yes, I know Dixons aren't super fancy, but there are cheaper brands out there, which I would recommend staying away from. I ABSOLUTELY noticed a difference as a result of a more consistent tip after sharpening and less lead breakage.

GRAF VON FABER-CASTELL is the only way to go for LSAT, or anything else requiring a pencil.

Building off of the pencil thread, what is the best eraser in the market? I would like one that leaves the scantron without any possible indication of its use.
