Thanks for the advice. My main issue is that I read slow, and thus forcing me to read a complicated passage in 3 minutes diminishes my ability to understand what is going on.

It usually takes me 3 - 3:30 per passage, which is pretty slow. I always tend to run out of time on the fourth passage.

That's not all that slow...unless you didn't grasp the passage adequately and have to repeatedly go back and reread portions of the passage to answer the questions.

Unfortunately, that's usually the case for me .

That discouraged me to the point where, for a long time, I decided to focus primarily on LG and LR, because I figured studying for RC was largely pointless; of course, I continued to make almost progress on RC by doing this.

But after some encouragement, study tips, and practice, I've been making pretty rapid improvement. I feel like many people seem to forget that the type of reading comprehension questions on the LSAT are very different than anything most people have encountered...so just like with the other two sections, it takes time and practice to fully understand. So glad it is finally clicking with me.

Don't give up, people. :)

You can definitely improve, but it is the hardest to do so on. Most people are not actually going to get much better at reading comprehension over the course of a couple of months studying; they are just going to get better at taking the actual RC section of the LSAT. In turn, there is probably a limit to how much most people can improve.

With that said, you definitely can improve on the RC. I went from scoring -4 or-5 to -1 through -3.

Best luck with RC Phoenix. I did my first PT RC section today and did pretty well. One thing I found challenging was that while the first three passages were relatively simple-- the fourth one was suddenly just on a different level. Vocabulary and style of writing. It was confusing and I think I've read they get harder with each passage (within the test).

My cousin is in law school right now at a T20 and her biggest struggle was RC. She never was much of a reader and there is without a doubt an advantage for those that read frequently. She struggled with staying focused and not having to re-read the passage multiple times to get the answers right (time management issue). She was able to improve on it after about 3 months of taking PTs nonstop. She also did a lot of non-LSAT related RC online too because according to her a lot of the general principles were similar.

I'm going to ask her specifically what LSAT prep materials she used. Will report back.

Hi thanks for your posting. I regularly missed 6 questions right now after I have been practicing the Manhattan RC methods. Any specific advices for this phrase, say reducing the missing questions from 6 to 4? Thanks in advance! By the way, how's your registration? I read former post of you that you missed the Dec one. Everything is fine?

I've improved from missing 7-8 per RC section to missing 2-5. Some quick tips:

1. Attack RC problems like they're LR problems
2. Look for the relationship between the evidence and the conclusion; what's the goal of the passage?
3. Passage Structure:
We used to believe something was true
Something happened
Now, we believe something else is true (differs slightly with each topic)

Simply slowing down on the passage made a ton of difference for me. I used to speed through the passage and consequently take a lot of time on answers and still missed a lot of them. Now I read the passage more slowly and answer the questions much more quickly and accurately. I went from -7 or -8 on RC to -2 to -0. So I agree you can definitely improve, though I think that would largely depend on why someone misses questions in RC.

Agreed. Not slow in my opinion.
