Try soda instead of coffee? You get a caffeine and sugar boost without the diuretic/laxative effect of coffee.

At least black coffee (in moderation) is healthy. Soda is pretty much poison.RZ5646 wrote:Try soda instead of coffee? You get a caffeine and sugar boost without the diuretic/laxative effect of coffee.
For caffeine I'd say tea if not coffee.

We're talking about a one-time LSAT snack. I'm not prescribing 2 liters of Mountain Dew daily for the rest of his life.Companion Cube wrote:At least black coffee (in moderation) is healthy. half-caff broaldrinjustice wrote: I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and have found some balance of caffeine that works for you?
or switch to a different blend with less caffeine
black tea has ~50mg, a cup of starbucks drip has ~300mg, other coffee has less (mcdonalds ~150), so depending what you are drinking now the answer is either switch to a lower caffeine coffee or half caff

Re: Balancing anxiety and caffeine
I think the caffeine and the anxiety work on the same side, unfortunately. Not only are you all anxious, but now you are all jittery. Why don't you look into a way to treat your anxiety for once and for all? (although, nothing's guaranteed)
Although, caffeine does have it's wonders and I can see it helping with anxiety to an extent. I can also imagine how bad your anxiety will be when you crash from a large intake of caffeine, or any intake of caffeine for that matter.
Only thing I can think of for your specific situation is for you to gradually drink your caffeine while you are taking the exam, not before. This way, you are taking in caffeine as you go, and you can see if it helps with your anxiety or not.
One thing I would not do, and I see some of you actually say you do, is to drink caffeine (especially a large amount of caffeine) a hour or two before the actual exam, this is a big NO NO in my book.

Re: Balancing anxiety and caffeine
I had a similar issue when I took the LSAT because I was super anxious about doing well and defending a paper for my master's. I limited myself to only one cup of coffee every morning about two weeks before the test. It really helped quite a bit.

Re: Balancing anxiety and caffeine
I'm probably not drinking coffee on the day of the exam. I'll already be alert due to test anxiety and caffeine + anxiety = bathroom urgency for me.
This was certainly true for my last exam in Dec 2014.
