even if you get it for half that price, or a fourth, or free, how can you justify three years of not working - but still paying for food and rent and happy hour - at probably the most critical time in your life just because you want to be able to say you went to law school (let's face it - that's what this boils down to)?

pretty easily really. plus, fyi, since you are figuring my expenses, i have a 2 year old.

"dad play with me"
"no i'm studying"
"why"
"because this is fun"

this is absurd dude, I really don't understand it. To make such a time-consuming and costly decisions just for shits and giggles - especially when you have a dependent - is seriously unfathomable to me. Law school is already a strain on peoples' relationships when they actually want to use their degrees, but to go for it on a lark? Just... why??

Hopefully I don't have to move to NYC. It's depressing that that is where the easy to get jobs are

I always thought NYC was the dream. It's the center of the human race.

some people i know took $250,000 / year jobs that they hate in nyc for a few years to pay off their debt. they all cant wait to get out of there.

I would be 100% okay with that.

its dumb to go to law school if you don't want to practice law there's no benefit

there might be a benefit one day. plus ill enjoy law school. i live for the moment.

What if someone wanted to go to law school in order to have a complete understanding of contracts and the law in general, which would allow he or she to become a better owner and manager of a corporation? Accordingly, this individual wouldn't be a 'lawyer' but I could see how going to law school would be a definite benefit if someone had aspirations to become a successful business executive.

again, those valuable skills might be worth it if you are sitting on a vast fortune and have no responsibilities for three years

I see your point for most cases. However, if one can get into a top 14 school (especially in the top half), surely there would be a number of opportunities in which he or she could begin work as an assistant counsel or something similar. It seems probable that such positions would allow for one to pay off their debt while also enabling he or she to work their way to becoming an executive of some sort. So yes, it's certainly hard to fathom not being a lawyer for some period of time under a short-term outlook, but it also seems practical to have long-term goals that don't include being a 'lawyer'.

Substitute DC, but yes

Something like that. Of course, plans are always subject to change but that wouldn't be too bad of a deal.

250,000 a year? don't all biglaw jobs start at 160,000 with lockstep raises?

Yes but the Top firms payout big bonuses because they work for percentage of deal value,

It's weird to think that some bro was the first dude to harness the power of fire. Imagine how stupid he looked to the other monkey-man sitting beside of him as he is striking this stone.

But that was pretty clutch considering a lot of scientists think that eating cooked food is what accelerated the evolutionary development of our brains.

I feel like the discovery of fire involved cavemen seeing a lightening strike or something and then very slowly figuring out how to replicate it
