Still in that will-I-won't-I phase of retaking. Plan on testing myself on a recent preptest (73 or 74) around April 28, because the NYU deposit deadline is May 1st. If I score a 168 and above, I'll consider retaking it.

On a positive note, today I timed myself on PT 54 RC. I went -3 on the section, which is something very encouraging given that on the real LSAT (which is 74), I went -7 on that section. This was the most confident I have ever felt on RC, and have felt that when I am actively engaged with the RC (i.e, summarizing paragraphs to myself, consciously looking for vocabulary words, how the text is presented) I am more successful. I went -3 because I spent a significant amount of time (too much) on the second passage, which is the comparative oil drilling mixtures one (11 minutes). I didn't miss any on the passage, but it did limit the amount of time that I had on the other two passages. Unfortunately, it was in those other two passages where I missed the 3 questions, but was proud of myself for being able to complete the 4th passage, which was a long, seven- or eight-question passage (where I only missed one).

I don't know if this particular test was just easy, but overall I felt pretty positive. I've adopted the 8 minute bank strategy that the Manhattan RC book pushes (each passage has eight minutes, with 3 in the bank. Give and take to/from the bank according to how long you take on eah passage), which I feel has given me some structure. Structure is what I need on the RC section and the LG section, because they were my undoing on the last test. With the LR, I feel the "First 10 questions in the first 10 minutes" rule (which I am able to execute to perfection or near perfection almost every time) gives me enough time, so I needed structure for the other 2.

Sorry for the long winded post. Just wanted to post an update on my studying, I suppose lol.

I'll try this 8 minute and bank strategy for RC

Took PT 23 today. It's a re-take (took it originally last Nov). I've seen 2 of the RC passages in January as they served as 5th sections on PTs I took then. So this really isn't fresh. I worked through all the reasoning as I normally would even if something seemed familiar, and I'm still uncertain as to how much of a benefit it really is (familiarity is nice, but sometimes I spend more time ensuring I take every logical step).

Anyway, scored a 179.

So I'm not altogether happy since it's not fresh and obviously not representative, but not unhappy with that either.

Tomorrow I'll take a completely fresh PT.

eta: made a bubble-mistake on 1 Q. Without that bubbling mistake, scored 180.

I finished all of the Level 1 Cambridge LR questions last week and some easy LG. I'm not sure if I should take a PT this afternoon or just drill RC for 3 hours. The PT would be a retake.

Taking PT 41 in sections through the course of today. It would be a retake initially taken just about 3 months ago.

How do you guys review RC questions from PTs 1-38 that you got wrong? Manhattan forums are failing me and I don't know of any good (free) sources that have the earlier test explanations.
Should I just keep rereading the passage and questions until I understand the answers?

Yep. I don't really use MH that much for RC anyway. And recently I've even questioned the need to do much BR on RC; I'd almost sooner re-take the entire RC section at a later date. I feel a thorough BR process on RC allows me to memorize too much, negating the utility of that RC section for any future use. My issues with RC are to do with reading less for detail, more for structure, giving myself sufficient time to go through ACs and then methodically approaching ACs with solid process-of-elimination (as opposed to whipping thru ACs, trying to find TCR).

But, if you're having issues with structure, or seeing why certain answers are wrong, then do the thorough BR.

Took PT 2 today.

Scored 171.

RC: -1
LR: -4
LG: -0
LR: -4

Really, really frustrating to keep struggling on LR.

Yeah. That 8 weeks out thing is pretty daunting, since I've been at this awhile and haven't made tangible improvements in a long while. Thank you for the encouragement, though.

Good luck on your exam today!

8 weeks is a lot of time to make solid improvements. I've been set on postponing to October but that noon start time just really calls to me.

I would never abandon my coop, ahem ahem, but can someone please make my decision for me?

So proud of all the high PTs ITT!

There's no downside to starting to study and prepare as if you are going to take June. Do you know where you are and how far you are from where you want to be?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
