Today I saw a row of labeled recycling bins and had a flashback to that game from PT June 2007. Also, LSAT prep and working >40 hours per week do not mix well.

If you falsify an answer choice and the argument still works, it isn't a necessary assumption. If you falsify it and in the process trip up the arguer, then it's a necessary assumption. It's amazing how those level 3 and 4 questions became a breeze when I just started falsifying choices and throwing them back at the prompt.

Looking for little realizations like that usually makes me feel like I've had a productive study session.

Yeah dude, that's called the "Assumption negative techique" it's in the powerscore LR bible. It works everytime you should use it whenever decided between two contender ACs. When I started doing this these kind of questions became much easier/quicker

I don't know how to describe it. I'm sure I read it when I went through the Bible, but it didn't click with me until I just stumbled upon it myself.

I think I'm gonna reincorporate Bibles into my practice days now. Maybe on second pass after having more familiarity with the test more things will click.

We are looking into this, fyi.

I'm saying this mostly to motivate myself, but also anyone who's in the same-ish boat, I guess.

My most recent 5 PTs I'm averaging -6 non-LG and -6 LG. If I can just push both of those -6's to -4's (a goal which seems super attainable), I'm into the 170s. -2's and I'm into the mid-170s.

Looking at it that way has picked up my spirits.

And yeah, absolutely this. I haven't gone through flaws yet in the Cambridge bundle, but they're my highest priority LR kind according to 7sage.

Took PT 57's LG section timed yesterday. Knew about the dinosaur game and how everyone hates it, but I had never seen it.

Went -2, missing 1 on that game (I skipped it, the one about which dinosaurs could go together, total time sink), and missing 1 on the last game that I didn't get to. They left absolutely NO ROOM for the last game. So glad they changed that up.

SPOILER OF DINOSAUR GAME BELOW

The dinosaurs game wasn't that bad. With 5 dinos having to be displayed, you knew two had to be out, and you know that U/V have to be split, which narrows the board down. You also know that S is in and is red, and two are mauve. I mean, there are a couple of possibilities that you have to try out for a couple questions, but you can pretty much eliminate a lot of answers easily. Was worried when I got to this game, but going -1 on it and -2 overall felt good for that section.

As for parallel flaw:

Of course it is great to diagram the stimulus so you know what you're looking at. A lot of times on these, though, the flaws aren't that difficult to understand. In other words, they aren't the most difficult types of flaws that some of the other assumption family questions exhibit. I've just trained myself to diagram in my head quickly (if a simple A -> B, -A therefore -B) or to just recognize what type of flaw, generally, the argument is exhibiting. Once I started to get better at identifying flaws, I became much better at those questions, and I didn't necessarily have to diagram them every time. Also, paying attention to key terms in the conclusion or premises helps, like some, most, or words like typically, tend, should, etc. As a lot of us know, a lot of those words can carry a lot of weight, especially on the parallel questions.

Now, could someone please help me with those damn agree/disagree question? I can't stand those!

I don't know if it's just that I have been looking at this damn test for way too long or what but this is kind of funny. Recently, when reviewing and thinking about difficult questions in LR, I have noticed that a lot of the time, wrong answer choices are basically stating what went wrong in approaching the question. This seems to be especially true for flaw questions. For instance, like when an answer says 'it infers something is true of a group must be true of each member' or 'fails to consider..', etc., the answer is basically a description of the wrong thought process one used to arrive at that answer. I don't know if I am losing it or what but that seemed pretty funny. Anyway, I guess that could help someone diagnose the reason why he or she made such an error in the first place.

Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Anyone ever apply to jobs that require a writing sample? I'm looking at some, and none of my old college essays really seem to cut it. Most of my work I've deleted and what remains is pretty mundane.I do have some other papers/proposals from an internship, but I feel like I would need to get their approval which could be a hassle. Debating about drafting something that I can use specifically for job writing samples. Just an opinion where I cite things and argue stuff. Any thoughts/ pointers?

When I applied to jobs that required writing samples I ended up editing an old essay to bring it up to snuff. Tbf, it was already pretty good and just needed a little tweaking. If you have any that you think are decent, I'd go ahead and edit one of them and submit it. Honestly, I'm convinced that future employers only read the first couple paragraphs, unless it's a job that's very heavy in writing skills.

Quick question:

Do most people here PT and blind review in the same day or push of BR until the next day? For those that BR in the same day as they PT, how long a break in between do you take?

Would post this in a separate thread, but it doesn't seem to be super-important.

@RedFred, I'm loving that dinosaur game! Just wishing that they had a Judgeasaurus in it lol
