Great. So embarrassing  I wish I could say I tripped gracefully like Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars that one year, but nope.

Also, very fascinating discussion of Jesus's circumcision y'all got going on ITT.

That sucks but at least you aren't broken.

Also lol right. Jesus' circumcision is so fascinating I could talk about it all day!

haha, that's why we Indians have so many celebrations. We just really wanna party. It's like, hey, let's celebrate light! (Diwali). Heyyy, let's celebrate colors! (Holi). Let's celebrate the bond between siblings! (Raksha bandhan). The sun! (Chhath). The moon! The harvest! Etc etc.

My favorite Indian holiday is Holi b/c it's just so much fun & beautiful:

Speaking of which, it's coming up in like 2 weeks & I'm gonna have go searching for something white to wear.

Oh yeah, you have your procedure today! Good luck and hope you recover soon!!

Hope you have a safe time!
I probably missed a page or something but what are you going in for?

Nothing major. Just being dramatic cause I've never had anesthesia until now. I just had an endoscopy cause I have been having severe chest pain but my heart is in perfect condition. Turns out I have a stomach ulcer so nothing major and very treatable.

That sucks so sorry to hear that. At least it's just an ulcer not something worse but that still sucks.

I had a blood clot in my leg a few years ago but it wasn't a deep vein clot luckily just an arterial vein so I didn't really have to worry about having a pulmonary embolism and they didn't put me on serious blood thinning medication just had me do an aspirin regimen. Turns out my blood is heterozygous for Factor V Leiden, luckily I'm not homozygous for it. Being homozygous for it is rare and many people die young who are homozygous.

From Wikipedia:
Studies have found that about 5 percent of Caucasians in North America have factor V Leiden. The condition is less common in Latin Americans and African-Americans and is extremely rare in people of Asian descent.

I do an on and off baby aspirin regimen and usually like to rest my legs on the couch rather than have them hanging off. Sometimes I get nervous that I'll develop a stomach ulcer being on aspirin. Ulcers aren't so bad but they can be dangerous on an aspirin regimen because you can end up having major stomach bleeding. I'm certain your doctor told you but don't use aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other NSAID pain relievers when you have an ulcer. I think acetaminophen is okay if you need something for pain relief but don't hold me to that.

When I was learning Odissi dance in college we also studied about Indian culture, folklore, and festivals. Indian holidays look like a ton of fun. Especially Holi! I love bright colors!

Yeah I know what you mean. I made the move to drop the weight a couple years ago because of major chronic family illnesses.

I've had both a DVT and a PE. They both hurt like hell, especially the PE, and I'm now on blood thinners for the remainder of my life. After the PE they ran a genetic test or something and found I have the factor 5 Leiden as well.

SWEET - I GOT MY EMAIL FROM UCLA TODAY

Now, I thought UCLA was in Los Angeles, but apparently it is in Hastings. I guess that is a suburb, like Hollywood, Compton and Hastings. Its all University of California, so I guess I have that going for me.

With such a prestigious school, there must be an application deadline, that they seriously enforce. And the email says that they have waived my fee, and that the deadline is March 1st. Oh wait, they will gladly accept late applications until March 15th, in case and I shit you not, it actually says this
So, if you have been thinking about sending in one or two additional applications, this will give you a bit of extra time to do so.

OMG, who writes these things? I don't mean to be harsh on the rep on credentials of the school, but this sounds like begging for apps. Besides, it will still cost me $28 to apply with the LSAC fee.

Now maybe if they put in a $30 Starbucks gift card, I might be persuaded to apply.

Don't worry just live well and without regrets! YOLO.

Also I know YOLO is used to meant to mean just do it even if it is something dangerous but if you only live once shouldn't you be trying to reach a balance between having a good time and not doing something stupid so you don't die young?

Don't worry too much Raider you may develop a second ulcer. Jk.

Being more serious I'm sorry to hear that your family has had so many medical problems. If you know your family has a history of certain issues that can be prevented through things like regular exercise, specific diets, or other lifestyle choices that lessen the risk then I definitely recommend doing them but on occasion breaking them because you do only live once. But if it's something like a family history of something that isn't preventable or it's unknown what causes additional risk like certain types of cancer, etc... then there is nothing you can do. No matter the case either do something to help prevent or don't, but worrying about it doesn't help. It's better to live life as worry free as possible, it's healthier. Something I often have to remind myself.

Gosh that's scary. Sorry to hear that, I'm glad you didn't die. Are you heterozygous or homozygous? Also being on blood thinners must suck. Do you give yourself shots or does someone do it for you? I hate needles so when they gave me a choice of heavy duty blood thinners or an aspirin regimen to remove my clot I chose aspirin.

If this is too personal you can PM me or just choose not to say anything.

I don't get shots. I take a pill. I have no clue if I'm heterozygous or homozygous, the hemotologist just said hey you have this thing gotta take blood thinners. And it wasn't really all that scary. While they're dangerous, I caught both early and they were easily treated. I can't emphasize how badly the Pulmonary Embolism hurt, though.

ETA: Definitely heterozygous, now that I've looked at the what these mean. I remember the doctor saying I only had one of the genetic markers or something to that effect.

Lol. You're so mean.

I'm sweet and not dark at all. Like a duckling in an acid rain filled lake. O_O

Also levity about serious issues can either be a great idea or terrible idea I've found. It depends on the person's mood that day. Hopefully I wasn't insensitive because it really does suck when family members have serious health issues.
