Good job! It'll pay off.
After being part of the study thread for so many months it just loses it's appeal for me. It's like a been there done that feeling. I already know what I need to do to study and posting is more of a distraction than a help now. So I'll probably be limiting it to just the June thread occasionally also.
I will miss the cool people though

If you are k-jd than the school ranking matters a lot more. More competitive firms still have lists of law schools that they hire from and they are typically the higher ranked or good regional schools.

If you have 2+ years of technical work experience (I know this is true for engineering I'm not 100% sure about bio) then it can be significantly easier to find a job after graduating law school and school ranking doesn't matter as much. Go anywhere in the top 100 schools and getting a job will be much easier than everyone else you graduate with that doesn't have a technical degree. WE in the field is invaluable for IP work. If you currently work at a tech/science/engineering company and they are willing to pay for law school and move you to the law department after then go to any school that'll give you a JD and enjoy the perks of working in-house

Not sure how relevant this is outside of the 2 large tech/science companies where I have worked, but this is what I was advised of by multiple IP lawyers who worked both in big law, moderate law firms, and in house and I am sorry if it is wrong or not representative. Some of them are also in charge of hiring new lawyers so I don't think it's too outdated.
Thank you so much your advise really helped!

Exactly. And I don't care to get to know new people really and everyone I currently know seems to be cycling out of this forum.
Meeting some TLSers this week so it will be good to move people into IRL friend-dom.
Have fun! That is something I look forward to eventually

Do you think UC Davis is a good school?
For me personally (and I have modest career goals)....UCD would probably be the cutoff school if I wanted to work in norcal.
are you applying in CA too?

this is the reason rank is so important now
Rank doesn't matter. It's costs and employment outcomes. Rankings are super arbitrary and mislead people into making terrible decisions.
Yeah but rank is somewhat determined by costs and employment so that's kinda what I meant, that depending on where you want to work- the higher ranked the school generally translates into better/ more likely opportunities for job prospects ...unless i'm missing something here

Also, all those picking up American Gods... I happened to pick up the 10th Anniversary edition, which apparently has 12,000 more words than the original printed version that won all the awards (which was just a tapered down version to begin with)...just saying that to say we may be reading diff versions

I'd be interested to go look at WUSTL. The campus looks good in general and the law school building seems particularly nice inside and out. I've been to St. Louis a couple of times, but only in the middle of longer road trips and as far as I can remember the only thing I've ever done there is picnic under the arch.

It's pretty advanced but I like it b/c it made me realize that corn & blood oranges go well together. The next time I feel like making a sweet cornbread or something else using corn, I can pair it with blood oranges or another citrus & it'll be awesome

Also, check out Oh She Glows. I'm not a vegan but her recipes are so delish
CE's mother loves this site and I've read some of the recipes and really liked the looks of them.

I bought her the book version of the site for Christmas.

I also bought her this cookbook for Christmas that has some good recipes. She made the apricot thyme scones for us once and they were super delicious.

Also hey guys, I'm kind of drunk. Manhattans are great.

Dirigo wrote:Rank is a lot of BS stuff like library size, incoming class stats, peer reputation, etc. Stuff that doesn't mean anything for you as a student in a professional school wanting a professional job.
I guess for large differences, it's slightly meaningful. A school ranked 20 is better than a school ranked 100, but is a school ranked 50 any better than a school ranked 70? probably not.
Library size is cooley's bs only. Rankings do take into account employment. Their metric is unknown (it's obviously not biglaw+fedclerk), but outside of their respective locations, rank matters.

For example, top 10% at USC (~20) will be more likely to get NYC biglaw than top 10% at University of Georgia (~30).

I think it's generally a good idea to bid wide anyway. Sure, go to Fordham over Vanderbilt (at the same cost) if you're dead set on NYC, but Vandy will place better anywhere else solely cause of rank.

+1, I love both of those sites. The Food Lab on Serious Eats is awesome, I'm a J. Kenji Lopez-Alt fangirl. I met him irl at a restaurant opening in SF & nearly hyperventilated b/c I was so excited  The dude is a culinary genius & a master at cooking amazing stuff fast and cheap.
I love his writing too. he makes you feel like you are taking part in the experiments with him.

http://www.seriouseats.com/2015/02/how- ... plant.html

I have an eggplant doomed for this recipe.
That looks amazing. I tried to make an eggplant soup the other day that was disastrous, but I feel like giving a different eggplant recipe a try. Eggplant is one of those veggies I'm not a fan of, so I'm always trying different ways to make it palatable other than baba ghanoush.
Go to Turkey there are so many delicious eggplant dishes there. I too thought that I didn't care for eggplant but on Turkish Airlines they actually have good airplane food. I tried the eggplant salad on the flight from Germany into Istanbul and it was delicious. So when we got into Istanbul I tried other eggplant dishes and I loved them all - well technically not one dish but that place all their food was terrible. But if you are at a good restaurant in Turkey they will have great eggplant dishes. Eggplant seems to be very popular in Turkey. Because of our trip eggplant is now one of my favorite vegetables.

Tip - If you ever go to Turkey basically no menu will say Eggplant it will call it Aubergine.

I can't vouch that this specific recipe is a good one but I had this dish while in Turkey and it was one of my favorites. Pureed smoky eggplant mixed together with bechamel sauce is divine. Plus the lamb on top and it's just so yummy.
